I'm reading submissions of short solstice writing for the next few days, so hold up your candles and walk into the woods.

In a couple of days I'm going to open a quick, experimental call for very short, solstitial submissions at @necessaryfiction.com, something I've wanted to do for the past couple of years but didn't quite get it together. Further details TK.

Been funny seeing people just learning that the NY Post is our campiest paper.

My sister and mine's biggest fear is f*cking up so badly at work (both teachers) that we land on the front page of the post with a devastatingly punny headline. I had a principal this happened to. He never recovered.

I am SO happy to be able to share the wonderful cover for DISPATCHES FROM THE AVANT-GARAGE: THE ALTERNATIVE PRESS coming in March from Wayne State UP. The cover has it all—postcards, letterpress, a bison. Beautifully designed, as it happens, by Lindsey Cleworth, who grew up in my/our hometown.

I heard Yo La Tengo cover New York Groove in Central Park so I'm imagining them playing this to celebrate NYC/NJ's election results

You know how a cat will do something silly and then look around to make sure no one saw it embarrassing itself? I had that moment today when I forgot how to open the bellows of this camera (that one isn't mine).

Took photo club to Green-Wood Cemetery and we got to photograph a red-tailed hawk dining on a rat.

One student said the lesson on composition seemed more like art class than photography so I said, "Photography is an art form." Then when I further explained that if you're a photographer you're most likely an artist another kid whispered, "that's *dope*."

I’m not even much of a poetry reader and I marvel at the incisiveness and erudition of Elisa Gabbert’s post mortem on BEST AMERICAN POETRY, which recently ended its 40 year run (gift link)

The Cloisters wouldn't let us bring the food we'd bought and had in a backpack, despite having coatcheck, so I just went outside, tied the bag to a tree & figured if a squirrel didn't get it, we were set. Waltzed back in and our food was still where I tied it. Didn't lose $25. My mama would be proud

The Sweet Dove Died by Barbara Pym is so sad & unsparing & the pink on the interior covers of the @nyrb-imprints.bsky.social edition is so hot.

This weekend we tried a new local cafe & the cashier said "You're the librarian at (redacted)!" She's a former student who opened up her own cafe. It's so gratifying to see former students doing well. Like her, like the guy who has a good union job doing welding. Makes the work feel worth it.
