it's a wild question, i know, but a lot of people seem to think it's OK that freelancer's rates have FALLEN every year

and when indie pubs try to pay even average rates, y'all complain about paywalls, which tells me your answer is "no!"

complaining about paywalls on independent media is literally an endorsement for billionaire controlled media — *and* vocal opposition to the future we need if we want to build something outside their monopolies on public discourse, periodddd
We do have a paywall, and that's because journalism has a cost. We pay all our contributors 0.50c a word & the founders haven't been compensated for the year, so we do ask for people to pay for our content. We still haven't made a profit this year, so we are unapologetic about that.
