You know how a cat will do something silly and then look around to make sure no one saw it embarrassing itself? I had that moment today when I forgot how to open the bellows of this camera (that one isn't mine).

Photo of my mother standing in front of her childhood home in Jiu Fen, Taiwan in May. This looks tiny but these homes were all built onto the sides of the mountains and there is another level below.

I'm reading some Lore Segal & finally read that great NYT profile & was amazed at 2 terrible comments. First one is about her view. I'm sorry, a Manhattan view of water towers is chic as hell! Plus her books, orchids and good light? Beautiful.

My novel's elderly heroine uses the siren call of the zongzi lady to navigate after her eyes are dilated & the day I arrived in Taiwan the NYT shouted out the same Chinatown zongzi lady as in my book. Well, now she's got a laminated menu for the new people who find her on the corner of Grand.

Rescued this bird trapped in a slightly ajar window. I'm just as surprised as you are that I was able to grab it safely. It flew off right after I opened the window. I also grabbed and released a little frog that got into the house a few weeks ago 💅🏻

Returned from Japan to Taiwan. After visiting one of the lakes ringing Mt. Fuji I now understand. Mt. Fuji...kind of a big deal! You understand all the poems and paintings and such. And this is just a crappy phone pic. Can't wait to see what I got with my cameras.

The family dog in Taiwan is named Mong Mong and is delightful. We went on a walk today. It was like she was sightseeing.

Finally went to an old school night market and we played a sort of mahjong bingo. Only my cousin won. (He's the one who was expecting an important call earlier in my trip. About a mahjong game.)

Unwittingly bought this diet coke not realizing it also contains fiber. Finally had to pour it down the drain to stop drinking it because it doesn't taste good.

I must have subconsciously realized this site doesn't have the juice & that's why I didn't use my classic 5redpandas handle. I was in the posting mines back in the days of the pavement list serv. A"classic poster". Good god.

Stopped short and almost got hit by a car because of this snake. I didn't believe my mom when she said it was venomous but then my bf fact checked and it turns out to be a krait, one of the most venomous land snakes. I was wearing sandals!!!
