This is wild, just how LITTLE the NYPD shoots.
There’s a lot to criticize abt the NYPD, but this seems laudable.
It also seems aligned w another fact I don’t fully understand, that while ~80% of all homicides in the US are caused by a gun, in NYC it’s basically ~50%.

People will just post on here demonstrating basic reading comprehension failures and ... nobody notices in the replies bc it affirms their priors. OP here is very dumb but the map he is posting is of counties, yet here is a thread doing numbers dunking on him as if he was talking about states.
California alone produces a third of all the food America eats. So this is a lie.
But let’s break down the food produced by the red states:
Guess what percent is harvested by people from Latin America?

Unprecedented levels of bluesky behavior here (you will not guess what movies this is about):
How shocking that a writer for The New York Times is so pissy about a trilogy of movies that deal with political corruption

I disagree because the level the general public operates at is that bad things happened while a Republican is in the White House. Most people here are quartz-posting.

Oh yeah, just about EVERYTHING on this site is quartz-posting and always has been! I knew the cartoon of course and that this idea was essential to understanding Us, but I've never seen it distilled to that one specific term and I think that's excellent.

Very funny that the line on here was that making the shutdown about ACA funding was a catastrophic blunder but then it worked so well that everyone who said that is now furious that the deal is ending without resolving ACA funding. Nobody knows anything.

if the break is as reported- a short term CR- seems like we might want to do this again in January
I think if senate mods want to break, they will break, but it's really important they do it without cover from the caucus or leadership

Amid the talk about Dems "caving," we can also imagine senators hearing from anguished SNAP recipients who can't feed their kids, fed'l employees who can't pay their rent, and constituents who can't go home for T'giving, and figuring, we'll fight this battle another day www.axios.com/2025/11/09/s...
Deal to end government shutdown in reach
At least 10 Senate Democrats are expected to support a key procedural motion.

If you want to know who on here (not Steve, obviously) is posting for outrage and clout and not trying to actually inform you just see if they mention that this was an order by Justice Jackson alone.
#BREAKING: Justice Jackson has issued an "administrative" stay, temporarily pausing a district court order that would've required the USDA to continue using contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.
The stay expires 48 hours after the First Circuit rules on USDA's request for a stay pending appeal.

This is why I'm convinced the Epstein files are going to be a Al Capone's vault level nothingburger when they are finally released. Some vague mention of Trump, certainly, but no smoking gun. (Why is blocking their release then? Bc he's a moron who can't think two steps ahead.)
did no one in the garland DOJ look through the epstein files?

While it's important to remember (as I noted y'day by citing Cuban and Tejano populations) that the national Latino vote isn't a uniform, homogenous entity... The main reason California is an impenetrable blue wall stems largely from the racist/anti-immigrant Prop 187 issue in 1994-- 30 years ago!
Perth Amboy, NJ, with almost all the votes in
2024 President: Harris +8
2025 Governor: Sherrill +56 (Per @votehub.com)
82% Hispanic, insane, given that is a bit of a small sample size....

I mean the fact that they got a complete unknown nearly as far as Platner got (kicking he ass of the popular incumbent governor in polls!) is pretty good evidence this is a good strategy politically! But they need to think harder about self-oppo.
And there it is. Platner mainly is this pet project for this consultant group, finally their own candidate to test their theory and they were so eager to test it (and so arrogant in believing nothing will stop them) that they overlooked all the downsides.

Original post with all the engagement is still up even though everyone replying to it is telling him the answer is "most of them." No follow up addressing that either. Disappointing.
To me, the popularism project, in all its many guises, betrays itself in one simple way, over & over: perhaps the most popular policy on offer, across party & demographic lines, is taxing the fuck out of the rich.
How many of these autopsies recommend foregrounding that policy?

No no no we're not imprisoning the homeless... we're just... holding them in a locked facility... that they can't leave.
you know things are bad when Romney's son is like "you guys are going to take money to intern the homeless?"

Note in the D.Oregon case Judge Brown restricted the instructions on §372 “intimidation or threat“ to the constitutional definition of a “true threat” (which, under current case law, would be “serious expression made recklessly which conveys intent to commit an act of unlawful violence”

Dinotopia wasn't just enchanting to me as a kid because of the dinosaurs, but because of all of the little details of the world. How would the architecture accommodate dinosaurs? What kind of tools would we use now that we could work with these creatures? It was so thoughtful and curious.
