TV really warps our brains. I feel like the average person would guess several orders of magnitude too high for this number--I would have guessed hundreds of times, at least.

It's not just Obama--Bernie tried too with Our Revolution and it didn't really work. Building an organization around a campaign is just inherently easier.

I mean this post is dumb but he's not talking about states? The "red areas" he's talking about are counties including the main ag ones in CA.

Exactly lol. Not an original coinage to me (though personally I prefer feldspar-posting to quartz-posting bc I think it makes the reference clear): bsky.app/profile/nick...
I know know if it was @aubreygilleran.bsky.social that coined it or someone else, but I like the concept of quartz-posting and think it should be used more:
I disagree because the level the general public operates at is that bad things happened while a Republican is in the White House. Most people here are quartz-posting.

I don't support the deal, but the idea that regular people have that level of knowledge of what is going on and will retain that knowledge a year from now is extremely misguided.

This is also feldspar-posting (as in that xkcd)--most voters have no idea what was going on with the shutdown or understand the details of the deal.

Oh sorry, let me correct myself:
How shocking that a writer for The New York Times be mad at an indigenous being for merely existing and fighting back against a corporate army

Yes. The precedential value of paradoxical decisions like that is sometimes hard to assess. But it would at least stand for the prop that the IEEPA tariffs already imposed are unlawful. (Also very implausible to me that Gorsuch would reach this result but that's a different objection).

He thought if Gorsuch said the statute allowed them but it violated nondelegation and the libs+roberts said the statute didn't then Trump would win. Which is not how it works!

Josh Blackman did a post on the tariffs the other day that showed he doesn't even understand how vote counting works when different justices disagree on the rationale for a results.

Oh yeah, just about EVERYTHING on this site is quartz-posting and always has been! I knew the cartoon of course and that this idea was essential to understanding Us, but I've never seen it distilled to that one specific term and I think that's excellent.

Ezra was one of the people arguing hardest for a shutdown beforehand so this isn't actually surprising.
