"more face-to-face meetings for determining disability benefits"

Reeves wants to do MORE catastrophically costly and cruel ATOS nonsense. Its been proven to be inhumane and not make any savings, the UN called it ideologically driven harm.

🚨 BREAKING: Chancellor continues freeze on housing benefit – missing a crucial opportunity to prevent homelessness.

As rents continue to rise, this will directly lead to homelessness for many of us. #Budget2025

'Exiting the market' is such a crap euphemism. It's not like the 'university' will then go and apply all its assets to another market. Those assets (human and non-human) will be dispersed, wasted, destroyed. Un-creative destruction. Which we can't afford as a society.
Chief exec of OfS 'said the OfS believes there are 24 institutions at risk of exiting the market in the next 12 months, seven of which are large providers with more than 3,000 students. There are another 25 or so institutions of various sizes at risk over a two- to three-year period, she added.'
Seven ‘large providers’ at risk of going under in the next year
Skills minister says no higher education institutions are at imminent risk of collapse this year but OfS confirms more than 20 providers are being closely monitored

I would buy this thinking it would be cute, and then invariably the cats would just sleep in the box it came in
Kind of surprised no one has made a pet bed that looks like a mound of gold and priceless gems so that your pet looks like it is sleeping atop a dragon hoard

Things like this are never about saving money and they often increase costs. They're about making sure that disabled people feel a suitable amount of shame.

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

Death of the author is about literary interpretations of a work that disagrees with the authors own stated intent. It has nothing to do with materially supporting an artist and it makes no sense to talk about it that way!

People using it this way don’t even know what it means!
Hey yall not what I wanted to do on my birthday but let it be clear

"Death of the artist" is all well & good but you cannot Seperate the art from the artist when the artist is still alive, a terf & every penny they recieve reinforces their beliefs & is used to actively harm Trans folks!

CW sexual harassment

Larry Summers is not an outlier + is not just a high profile case showing a rot that only exists in US HE. This is commonplace for students + staff in UK HE too, even after the hard work of many to expose it. This is just an emblem of the many quiet cases that happen everyday.
I know that at this point it's a subplot in the Epstein files drama, but I feel compelled to point out, once again, that Larry Summers HAS NO BUSINESS teaching students at ANY university ever again!

My latest cries into the abyss, in @thenation.com

Why Is Larry Summers Still Employed?
The revelations about the economist’s attempts to pressure a women into a “relationship”—with guidance from Jeffrey Epstein—should finally disqualify him from teaching students.

Also, trust me to pick a subject where my literature review is so long it needs to be TWO chapters. Fortunately, most of the text is already there!

I keep thinking about the Raymond Williams line: "To be truly radical is to make hope possible rather than despair convincing".

Hope is not easy. Despair seems obvious. But every howl of despair manifests as further malignance. Compliance with fascism is despair metastasising.

This is one of the reasons why we need to problematise the language of survivorhood, even though it’s handy to use as a short-form online to build shared understanding
