Hi I’m Elle (published as Lynsay Hodges), a PhD student @ Goldsmiths.

My research uses autoethnography, participatory methods, and media analysis to investigate the lives of sexual violence survivors and the assemblages of survival that form.

Say hi if you like! 👋

Tapping the sign: "Staying alive is a lot of work for a disabled person in an ableist society."—Alice Wong in the Introduction to Disability Visibility
I find myself increasingly wondering how able bodied people appear to believe that being disabled is"easy."
Getting accommodations in school, uni and/or work: easy, a breeze, even!
Getting a doctor to write you a certificate supporting your needs: EASY!
Working from home: EASY!

Hidden in the controversial about UK "choking ban" proposal are a host of even more egregious proposals that could:

* make camming illegal
* redefine escort ads as pimping
* render model contracts unenforceable
* criminalize discussions of teen sexuality

And a whole lot more ...
Moral panic about rough sex gives way to censorship in the UK
British regulators and lawmakers are hot on a measure that would make possessing or publishing strangulation porn a crime.

When we talk about sexual violence, even when exposed by survivors themselves, we still tend to centre the male perpetrator (because god forbid a woman could be one! /s)

An example: #MeToo became about Weinstein. Few people can name Alyssa Milano, and fewer still Tarana Burke.

This needs to shift.
But what alarms me in all this is how the girls who were victimized by these men are largely forgotten. I want us to find ways of centering them in the discourse.

Mum has to give me money to buy my own xmas presents online for her to then put away because of how her card works.

She got me a pretty resin bookmark with one of those things to help keep a page open, with the hope it’ll help my silly hands when reading

I’d like to remind people that we have no genetic markers for Madness and neurodivergence, including those which are hereditary.

There is no singular gene which makes one autistic or have bipolar disorder.

Genes didn’t turn out to be as simple as psychs wanted.

So let’s not do any ableism here.
Exclusive: Adolf Hitler’s DNA has been sequenced by scientists

It has:
- shown he had a disorder which impacted his sexual development
- debunked rumours about his ancestry
- shown a high likelihood that he had a neurodivergent condition and/or bipolar disorder

CW misogynistic SA language and sexual harassment

I can attest to this too. I was called jail bait during my youth (and abused by a man who did so, in fact). I also received the most harassment as a teenager. It pretty much all stopped once I hit 21.

CSA is thoroughly normalised in society.
I was talking with a friend my age not long ago about how she received the largest amount of male interest from older men when she was ~8 years old to around 19 or so.

At least a couple of them--from church, mind you--said she was "worth the risk with law enforcement". She wasn't safe at church.
I want people to understand that in my youth, a youth that happened somewhere between the youth of Epstein, Trump, Maxwell, ex-Prince Andrew, et al & that of their victims, the term "jail bait" was framed as a compliment.

i wish i could convince myself to hope that maybe, just maybe, THIS time people will finally admit that sexual violence is *political violence*, is a political and social structure, is a technology of oppression, not a private, basically forgivable transgression. but i really can't fool myself
The idea that sexual abuse is part of “private” life instead of a public crisis has done incalculable damage. Anti-rape activists have to fight to even make it possible to expose sexual abuse as a wrongdoing in public without being silenced and undermined. That fight is far from won

CW for brutal discussions of genocide and violence

I watched this documentary today and all I could think, as I was hearing all these horrors, was “if this is what comes out on ITV, if this is what they’ll say on camera (even with disguised identities), what the fuck else is happening?”

CW sexual violence

Colonialism is predicated on sexual violence. I would put my neck on the line to say you will not have war without rape. Even the land was feminised when discussed as something to be taken and plundered.

These scenes, then, are as unsurprising as they are horrifying.
November 11, 2025 at 7:11 PM
Statistics are similarly bad in the UK: fewer than 3 in 100 rapes resulted in a charge, let alone a conviction.

The criminal ‘justice’ system cannot and will not protect us. We need to imagine wider possibilities for justice that is truly transformative.

A good thread on the non-consensual sharing of videos of state violencee
Random thoughts on ICE trauma porn: For years Black folks on social media have been asking people to not share videos of police violence. Now people are sharing videos of ICE violence. Terrible, traumatic moments in people’s lives shared often without consent.

An evil person getting ill/becoming disabled is not ‘karma’. This implies that disability is a punishment for bad deeds, and makes it fair game to then be ableist even more about said disability.

Trump will not see your comments about his failing health. But disabled people in your community* will.

Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.
