Kind of tired of making profiles.

Me: she/they, old, sometime writer: babushka to a promising goblin.

If we did what I said, we wouldn't be in such a fucking mess. Top picture: cement ship, Aptos

Stop thinking of COVID as if it's an acute cold. Think of it as a neuroinvasive virus you can get every year or two that slowly degrades your brain in ways that will harm your abilities and quality of life throughout your life. (2/?)

Folks are remarking on how this persistent Central Valley fog is "unprecedented." But that is *very* far from reality! While Nov is fairly early season for this pattern, dense & frigid "tule fogs" actually used to be *more* common, lasting days or even weeks in decades past. #CAwx

"Jorge" shared this video from where he is hard at work pruning cherry trees in the Madera CA area. Pruning trees is hard work as holding these shears up all day long as you climb up and down ladders causes serious strain on workers' arms, shoulders and back. #WeFeedYou

Brazil approves the first vaccine against dengue. The disease killed 6000 Brazilians in 2024.

This is a really remarkable achievement. I got dengue in 2015, and even with the mild case I had, it was a really miserable experience.

Also, a lot of Green Tech funds are heavy on Tesla and Nvidia, meaning they’re being propped up by a meme stock and a bubble. It is worth the effort to find the prospectus and look at the load distribution. There are socially responsible funds that are safer.
possible heads up to family at thanksgiving who may even already be skeptical of AI but missed their once sensible index funds are now heavily AI bets

like I have non-tech family who know crypto is a scam, if their retirement got crypto mixed in without their involvement they'd correct away from it
friend shared this, TLDR if you're fortunate enough to have any retirement invested and it's in a previously not crazy index fund, a lot of your investment is now in the AI tech bubble. I just reallocated to options less tied up in it

p.s. this is not investment advice, I'm not a certified anything

Black Friday sales are tempting, but remember unions are calling for a mass shopping strike for national chains, esp. Amazon, Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Starbucks, & Apple. If you shop between now & Dec 2, please support small & local businesses & avoid crossing the picket line 💪

Former sprouts sorter here! Used to work the baby sprouts line at night in the freezer plant on Chestnut Street. I'd walk home at 3 in the morning & leave my boots & plastic apron on the front steps so as not to bring the factory smell into the house.
Nearly the entire brussels sprouts supply in the US comes from California’s central coast.
Brussels sprouts grow upright on a tough, woody stem. This picture is a partly mechanized harvest, but a crew of workers used machetes to cut off the stalks in the field, while another worker trims off the leaves as he feeds the stalks into the machine. It's grueling work especially when it is hot.

None of my videogame knowledge is useless because it's all about Sims. Even stuff I can't personally benefit from is worth something to soneone else playing some version of the game.
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

Thinking about deep-frying a turkey?

Every year, hot oil accidents spark fires that ruin holidays in seconds. A partially frozen bird or a small spill can turn into a major emergency fast. If you’re set on frying, take it outside, far from anything flammable, and stay with it the entire time.
