"Safety cameras" has to be one of the most chilling phrases I've heard in local politics. Like "necessary censorship" or "friendly wiretapping."

Why turning off Seattle's safety cameras will do more harm than good | Editorial
Seattle’s public safety cameras and new Real Time Crime Center are essential, modern-day tools to solve crimes and ensure safety in cities.

“Regulating AI” has to involve finding aggressive ways to make this kind of shit stop and if Dems don’t run on that it’s political and social and human malpractice
NEW: ChatGPT and other chatbots are feeding users' fixations on real people, reinforcing users' delusional ideas and obsessions about others as they descend into unwanted harassment, stalking, and/or domestic abuse — traumatizing victims and profoundly altering lives.

GANG.

LLM DETECTORS ARE ALSO LLMs AND PRONE TO THE EXACT SAME ERRORS.

STOP USING THEM.
Just because I keep seeing those "I checked this piece and it's written by AI" - this is an old article of mine, before AI was available. So could we not?

I’m going to keep sharing this PSA: although the MMR is usually given at 12 and 18 months, your baby can get a first dose as early as 6 months. They will still need the other two doses, because immunity doesn’t stick at that age, and insurance may not cover it. But it’s protection.

Taking an anti-vaccination stances against a treatment that saves the life of ONE IN FIVE HUNDRED KIDS and has no verified deaths involving healthy recipients is not just anti-science and anti-logic, it's evil. I have studied this disease too extensively to soften that word.

It's just evil.

Most viruses, you catch them, your immune system learns them, locks their details in the control room, and then you can fight them in the future. Measles not only doesn't leave you that data, it blows up the control room. No immune memory for YOU good DAY.

Many diseases, even airborne ones, will fall out of the air in a relatively short period of time. Measles goes for the gold standard, and can remain infectious in the air for HOURS. When there was a case at Disneyland several years ago, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride became a virus hotbox.

Measles is one of those nightmare diseases that, if it hadn't been killing people for hundreds of years, people would ABSOLUTELY be pushing conspiracy theories about right now. It's too nasty in too many different directions to seem natural. But oh, boy, it sure is.

Someone liked this post which reminded me of this thread.

Sharing again ICYMI and would like to share pronouns with the rest of Bluesky in a way that's easy to see.
Lots of us used a pronoun labeler on here that has gone away, but there's a new pronoun labeler people are using.

Labelers can be confusing if you haven't used them before (& even if you have). They can be used in different ways.

This thread shows you how to use the pronoun labeler. 🧵

I have been saying this for 3 years now; it is evident from even a theorerical understanding of these systems' operations. But ppl keep claiming it's not true or not important, or could be patched over, & so I keep hoping each time an "AI" company CEO comes out & admits will be the one that sticks

This is LITERALLY just taking Mike Johnson’s lie and presenting it as fact.
Calling the requirement for a judicial warrant before entering a person’s home one of the Democrats’ “new restrictions on federal immigration agents” crosses the line into outright falsehood. It’s in the Bill of Rights! A rule as old as the republic.

this is why i am laser-focused on paying rent for people right now.

the second a family is evicted, the costs of everything explode. lives are disrupted, new schools have to be found, people are in physical danger, and then they are so much harder to rehouse with an eviction on their record.
so many families are in awful positions because ICE’s bullshit has collapsed the already fragile social safety net.

this family is living in their van in minnesota in winter. they’ve applied for help at over a dozen orgs and are still unhoused. with babies.

I think the thing that enrages me the most about Musk is that he presents himself as some sci-fi nerd hero doing everything possible to save humanity by going to new planets.

If your plan for saving humanity doesn’t include the people already on earth, you’re just a racist piece of shit.
As a direct result of the obscene actions of Russell Vought and Elon Musk in destroying USAID, we can expect “at least 9.4 million additional deaths by 2030, if the current funding trend continues.

About 2.5 million of those deaths are projected to be children under the age of 5.”

In the US, this doesn't happen. One party can literally shut down the government *every single time it is in power* and at no point is this considered antisocial enough to warrant a snap election to replace them with people who actually want to govern.

In most parliamentary governments, failure to agree on a budget instantly starts this "nope, fuck you, roll a different character" process.

The game stops, and everyone trying to fuck up the game for everyone else gets threatened with being voted out for someone who *is* willing to cooperate.
