Question: the former political editor of the Times thinks that the BBC is pro-trans. 70% of trans people not only disagree, but think it's hostile to trans people.

Who to believe? 🤔

If you want to see how badly Maitlis behaved, read this 🧵. She effectively manufactured a story to harm trans kids from nothing, then used her influence to mainstream it.
Emily Maitlis brags about her, Deb Cohen, and Hannah Barnes getting the Tavistock GIDS service shut down.

What she doesn't talk about is how Newsnight journalists manufactured outrage and concocted "scandals" based on unethical journalism - which they were called out for, but tried to hide...

I presume an impact assessment would basically say "we know it's going to be harmful, that's the point." It's not that they haven't considered it it's that they already know and don't care. They probably don't care about FOIs either: GC have dominated the public narrative.
FOI reveals the EHRC couldn’t even be bothered to finish an impact assessment for their new code of practice. When Bridget Phillipson asked for it on 8 October, all they managed to hand over was an unfinished “working draft”. 1/

"The “liberal media bias” claim was never about accuracy. It was about working the refs. And it worked. Traditional outlets moved right, hired conservatives, softened coverage, and paid settlements — all to prove they weren’t biased."

BBC take note.

This is as stupid as the Tories kneecapping solar. That subsidy is needed while we build the industry, we're not there yet but this will lead to job losses - even if you don't care about decarbonising home heat.

Sincerely hope this doesn't happen.
This will kill the heat pump market.

And that means cuts in investment in the whole system: tech, skills, supply chain, business investment.

And the subsidy is not a *benefit*, it's designed to equalise the choice between gas and electric.

To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

Pity sports bodies seem to care more about appeasing transphobes than what the data says.

i think the most sick thing about govt going all in on Esther's phone shit after her daughter was murdered in a crime which had not nothing to do with phones

... is that I spoke to Brianna's friends. On Tiktok. They were everything to her - you want to take that away from other kids like Brianna?
Do you not think it's bizarre to have strangers on the internet decide they know better than Brianna's own loved ones on what is or isn't insulting to her memory?

I've got no time for Rosie Duffield, but she turned up at a drop-in event in Parliament and that's been the limit of her involvement.

Spectator running a piece by Daniel Hannan which leans heavily into the inferred idea that you're not necessarily British if you come from a migrant background, even if you were born and brought up here.

I just want to reiterate, if you are using the front page of national newspapers to say how the media are biased against you, the standing assumption is that you are acting in bad faith. Remarkably, being silent is a key component of being silenced.

Of course, using claims of systematic bias as a means to drive systematic bias is also of a very old playbook. None of this is new, but the tactic of claiming conservatives are marginalised has been the modus operandi of the alt-right since the 2010s. They will destroy the BBC if they can.

It is lovely that Nebula is AI-free as well as ad-free tbh. It’s like YouTube but good.
Completely AI-free and devoid of slop, I think we've managed to build a platform which very much *isn't* designed to keep you swiping and scrolling, but wants you to find something you actually want to watch as fast as possible.

Which I guess is the ultimate side benefit of being ad free.
