man we need a way to say "the moral rot and depravity of this country's elite must be burned out of it with cleansing fire" that isn't wildly reactionary-coded

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

Reminds me of when MAGA chuds say things like: “Well, King XYZ married her when she was 16, it’s natural, that’s how life was then.” No, the highly inbred royal houses were freakish outliers from normal folks actually.
Polygamy, while permissible in conservative interpretations of Islam, is widely regarded as weird hillbilly shit throughout MENA and is rarely actually practiced, but expecting these boors to know that would require that they know anything about the world beyond their nose
JD Vance: "I don't know if you saw this media circulating on social media, but the president met the president of Syria, al-Sharaa, in the Oval Office a couple of days ago, and he asked him, 'How many wives do you have?' Heh heh heh heh heh! Haaaaaa! Amazing comedic timing."

If you do want to give food instead of money, and a lot of people do, check with the food bank, they will often post lists of items that they need that they can't get any more cheaply than you can. Some include Amazon wishlists for food and other items.
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

Written by a man living in exile in Hungary, a country whose strongman pretty openly premises his rule on anti-semitic fear-mongering.

But how could anyone get the idea that Viktor Orban's politics are good, asks Rod Dreher, who relentlessly promotes them.

We fed dozens of MQ-9s to the Yemeni mountains for 2 straight years! Three SEALs drowned themselves in the Red Sea for no reason! US army guys got themselves crushed to death by a floating dock so Biden could get a headline in the NYT! Forest Service guys hid from the IDF rape gangs at Sde Teiman!
The United States expended 25% of its entire missile defense capacity to prevent Israel from facing consequences for its war of aggression against Iran! The US Navy pushed maintenance schedules back years to kill Yemenis on behalf of Israel! They poured F/A-18s into the Red Sea for Israel!
I don't want to directly quote tweet but there are apparently still people who think the US is somehow only "indirectly" involved in the genocide in Gaza. We've spent probably $50+ billion to make sure it happens! American soldiers have killed and died making sure it continues!

The USS Gerald Ford cost $17 billion for the warship alone, not including aircraft, operational costs, etc. And now it's sitting in the Caribbean to scare Latin American countries that have the misfortune of sharing a hemisphere with us.

Why is the "we must be united!" hectoring directed at people who are mad at the Cavers and not to the Cavers? Everyone who's mad was united, then the Cave Caucus walked across the aisle and betrayed what the public had been told was the Dem position.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

In this case, the alleged problem -- men pretending to be women so they can dominate women's sports -- does not exist, and policies to prevent even any potential abuse of the system are already in place. This leaves the policy proponents actually want: banning trans people from public life.
See, the path to victory is telling people that their bs moral panics are real. Then don't offer any solutions (because there are no real solutions, just the eliminationist politics of the con artists who promote the moral panics). Then, if you still somehow get into office, cave. People love that!

Last night, the Trump Administration sent a letter suggesting Wisconsin should return our FoodShare payments.

My response ⬇️
November 9, 2025 at 5:05 PM
Bananas. Wisconsin already sent out its November benefits and I suspect a lot of families have already spent them. Trump and the GOP are spending what little political capital they have left quite literally trying to take food out of the mouths of the poor.
SNAP update. Insane one. So USDA is now saying on a huge lag:
- issue partial payments using a bad-math formula;
- CLAW BACK full issuances that any state sent *properly* under last week's guidance;
- if you don't CLAW BACK benefits, we won't pay the federal share of SNAP administrative costs (??)
