I feel like the key to understanding Rod is that he thinks that the european far-right is correct, but that they should be electoral autocracies and not totalitarian and not follow the route of Germany in the 30s
I'm sort of fascinated that Rod Dreher basically hates the groypers while basically advocating everyone he knows (including the Vice President) read Camp of the Saints which basically is bigoted in its own right:

Just got out of the two meetings, and based on the “expectations” read to us, this person is absolutely, without a doubt, getting fired.
I have too extremes. I’m so tactful that I’m deferential or I’m so blunt that I’m rude. There is no in between. I went to the rude today when a coworker confided that she is at least behind on fifty cases before the deadline today.
