Pretty much the entire YIMBY movement is built on this premise.
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

Astroturf ass opposition.

I don‘t even like the gondola! But the California Endowment has been pouring so much money into stirring up fake outrage that I’m being negatively polarized into supporting the project.
The coalition of LA residents who oppose the Dodger Stadium gondola shut down the Metro board of directors meeting Thursday.

They forced the meeting into recess and demanded that officials at minimum allow public discussion on the project. This is a developing story.

1. Cars are the biggest source of climate pollution in the country.

2. Transportation is the biggest household expense after rent/mortgage.

2. State and local gov't could cut these numbers by about 25% in five years without any federal policy.

Somebody solve this for me, what should we do? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

This was just sent to me by an LAUSD parent. A 4th grader was assigned to design a book cover for Pippi Longstocking using Adobe for Education. Here is what the AI tool generated:

The entire apparatus of planning created a web of meetings, outreach, environmental reports, studies, and committee approvals to operate exactly this way—to make any housing project go through a painful decades long process to get a permit
I was 19 when I asked that my BART parking lot be turned into housing. It was a pipedream. @alfredtwu.com made a drawing of apartments here that caused a neighborhood freakout. I met @libbington.bsky.social and she organized the area pro-housers. At 29, it finally begins.

I'm so sick of y'all in my mentions with this talking point, just stop.

PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD RENT. Half of renters are paying over 30% of their income on rent, another quarter are paying over 50%!!!

People need homes they can afford!

I'm so fucking tired of so many people being killed in traffic crashes. I'm so fucking tired but I'm also so, so fucking angry.

I use obscene language because what is obscene is over 40,000 people/year dying in preventable crashes in the US, 7,000 or so who are merely walking, and society just 🤷🏻‍♀️

Just damning.

The reason drivers kill so many people in the United States is that *they want to* and our political "leaders" are weak-willed cowards and apologists for violence who are more afraid of angry drivers than dead citizens.

And that's a fucking fact.

Democrats can retaliate against these GOP gerrymanders with new maps in Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, & Virginia.

They could flip 7 GOP seats to make up for this & new GOP maps in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, & possibly soon Indiana.

Imposing costs is the only way to deter the GOP from doing this

I hope people take two minutes to listen to this shocking display of bigotry. It brings clarity to what we are fighting against. We should all be sick to hear such un-American drivel from the President of the United States.
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."
