anybody know of any examples of people mapping out where federal funding is flowing in their town/city, and what the impacts are if it is cut off?

I’m talking small scale

I’d like to write up a report like this for my town of a few thousand residents

It's that time of year when Americans set up quaint, walkable Christmas villages in their living rooms, dreaming of living in such a cozy place.

Meanwhile, they'll show up to city council meetings to fiercely oppose any plan that would actually build that kind of car-lite community in real life.

I am a zoomer — and here’s no great matter;
I have taken dipenhydramine in massive doses,
And I have seen the nocturnal Hatman, bringer of psychosis,
And in short, I was afraid.
Deliriants like Benadryl can bring on terrifying hallucinations in high doses. Some Gen Z-ers are taking at least a dozen pills at a time—and challenging others to do the same.

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence

My spouse caught Rosemary’s Baby on TV recently. After a few minutes she said that it’s not about satanists, it’s about how everyone treats you when you’re pregnant.
I don’t know what the policy move is here, but we need to fucking do better on treating pregnant people like people

part of the price for not doing so is, some of them will join weird cults

I read a little of this. gotta take a break and come back to it later

but hi

I *deeply* get why people get sucked into this world. medical treatment feels like, and sometimes just is, abuse

AND there’s a lotta snake oil out there

born and raised upstate NY and I have stopped being Thermostat Dad, heat pumps are that good
I always have to account for whether my cleaning clients have switched to heat pumps because that means I have to be able to remove layers down to sleeveless working in their houses in winter because they can afford to make it that cozy!
November 22, 2025 at 12:42 AM
this is true and dishwashers aren’t the only green thing that’s better!

see also: heat pumps
Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.
