To celebrate tonight’s Wolf Moon, I’m re-sharing one of my earliest short stories, SCALES FELL FROM HER EYES.

It’s a sapphic, Indigenous reverse werewolf story, free-to-read on my website: maemurray.com/scalesfellfr...

Tonight the moon and Jupiter wink at us all. Sometimes it’s nice to feel so small. 🌕

And because this impacts women specifically, and we are socialized to be afraid of appearing unkind, especially in public: Standing up for yourself is the opposite of unkind. It’s kindness to yourself. Shut the motherfuckers down.
Not standing up for yourself—yes, even in online spaces—is out for 2026. I don’t deserve to be treated badly, and neither do you. You deserve to defend yourself, and to be defended by friends, and you deserve to let go, step away, and start over if you need to. ♥️

When I crowdfund & successfully deliver three projects over the course of four years, I’m called a “grifter” by sad men who should spend more time putting out a project of their own than monitoring my social media. But the proof is in the pudding, honey, and 2026 is going to be my biggest year yet.

My career was built on publishing two anthologies to combat the ridiculous purity culture of queerness in horror as policed by OTHER QUEER PEOPLE. Am I going to have to do it again, but with romance? Have we learned nothing? 😮‍💨
Having spent most of my career between queer horror and holiday romcoms, I feel ALL of this.

Please, for the love of god, get a grasp on the concept of ✨GENRE✨
It’s never been more clear to me the intersection of horror and romance—these kind of bastard genres people turn their noses up at—than in the backlash by other queer people against HEATED RIVALRY, saying it’s too soft/unrealistic, compared to queer stories in horror being called bad representation.

In another life, I was in People Magazine for surviving a suicide attempt, and won an award for writing about it. All I can say is, I’m so glad I’m still here, and that I have other things to write about. And that you all give me the opportunity to do so. ♥️

You should say what I always say: “It depends on who you ask.”

My grandma thought I was very famous! 😂
Mentioned to someone at the bar last night that I was a published writer and their immediate response was "Are you famous?" LOL. LMAO

I apologize for the spam. I had a lot of things I needed to reshare on the new account, and figured the middle of the night was the best time to do it. 🖤

I guess one perk of convalescence is I got to read I’m Sorry if I Scared You by @maeisafraid.bsky.social in one rip today. Mae’s debut is poignant and cathartically violent with weirdness constantly bubbling around the edges. Prose like rusted barb wire slowly tightening on your heart. Check it out!

I’M SORRY IF I SCARED YOU, by @maeisafraid.bsky.social

Murray sold me on their book by describing it as “a holiday read for people who love abortion and hate cops,” and I couldn’t write a better pitch if I tried, so I won’t even bother. This book delivers on that premise in spades.
