Bullying someone into being given a peace prize feels like the kind of absurdity you‘d expect to find in a Douglas Adams novel.

I don't know about anyone else, but social media has been *aggressively* pushing/marketing coffee made of mushrooms into my algorithm. I'm sorry, but I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my morning cup. I don't want health benefits, I want barely contained rage that's occasionally offered iced.

It's the 147th birthday of Ernest Thesiger, scene stealer in The Old Dark House and The Bride of Frankenstein. An out gay man in the 1920s, Ernie was also an expert needlepointed & painter (We own one of his paintings). We are such a fan, we even named our dog after him. Do you see the resemblance?

I’m always surprised when award shows don’t have their own recurring slasher characters.

Sal Mineo's birthday is a great occasion to watch WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR? Sure, he plays a baddie, but his commitment carried this 42nd Street slice of neo-noir sleaze (in and of itself not a bad thing) into cult film status. Also? Sal Mineo.

The earnestness of art that is angry and deranged often helps one cope with a world that is angry and deranged.

It has never been more important in most of our lifetimes than now to make art that deeply offends and concerns fascists.

In the latest @midnightmasspod.bsky.social, I mentioned an Egyptian knock-off of ROCKY HORROR titled FANGS (aka ANYAB) from 1981. It's truly wild: Couple ends up at castle, owned by Dracula instead of Frank, disco numbers ensue. The queerness is navigated around, which makes it feel...more queer?

I overheard this *very* LA conversation at a cafe...and it brought me a little chuckle in these dark times:
"Have you met my wife?"
"No! How long have you two been married?"
"Ten years!"
*Wife steps up*
"I'm not the first wife...or even the second."

I'm deeply obsessed with the winter and holiday-specific monsters of folklore. Not just Krampus or the Yule Cat, we're talking Grýla, the Mari Lwyd, the goats, the spiders, etc. I read about them all year long and am always looking for cool art. It's a niche interest that brings me joy.
u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts
