I'm pretty sure I know. They aren't. We're not going to really be able to make a lot of progress in dealing with the implications of this tech unless and until we get rid of all this "woo-woo" talk about LLMs. Anthropic pushing this line is PR, unserious.

A lot of residential only zoning in California traces back to anti Chinese laundry services and general anti saloon politics.
After housing, this is the next big zoning reform: the right to do business. Always found it odd that the USA, supposedly the land of the free market, makes it the hard if not outright illegal to open a business in most places.

Like many other planning failures, this one's also rooted in racism.
The al pastor taco truck at sleepy North Berkeley BART is booming every night with neighbors, cyclists and families. Imagine what we could do with fully legalized street vending citywide.

Correct yeah the biggest opponents of deregulated commercial activity are small business losing all their profit to rent in brick and mortar. Really sucks but you can understand why.

Land of the coward home of the slave where it takes 2 years of permits to open a low intensity small business and you have to rent out a small supply of commercial buildings far away from residences to do it.

None. The 51Bs just stop half terminating at Amtrak.

Once the ferry is back in operation the 51b should just send all buses to the marina
February 12, 2026 at 6:30 PM
Doesnt matter. Berkeley Marina is controlled by state lands commission

Its also interesting but understand considering that Kennedy isnt pushing this apartment for young people, that he used the Density Bonus law to side-step our city's parking maximum limits and build more than we'd allow on transit corridors.

Very happy for this apartment coming to my neighborhood and when it opens it will undoubtedly be filled with seniors who live in big houses in the Berkeley Hills who can no longer drive, are physically impaired or have the sense to escape the fire zone.
