Jesse Ventura has talked about running for governor of Minnesota again, but he seems far more interested in becoming its first premier. "Instead of Canada becoming the 51st state of America and lose their healthcare ... I’d like to see Minnesota, all of us become Canadians."
‘Let’s join Canada’: Former Minnesota governor floats radical idea
The former Minnesota governor recently weighed in on the turmoil in the state with a radical idea.

Amid all the great American traditions this admin is bringing back—the mining & drilling, the camps & coups, the whole milk, measles & McCarthy, Mad Men era gender roles and, ofc, the plastic straw—one of its more overlooked achievements might just be the revitalization of the protest folk song. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Wow! Jesse Welles performed his song “Join ICE” on the Colbert Show last night. 🏆

There needs to be a way to say at some point "come on you're just abusing the process now with your evangelical donation money when the local community have made an abundantly clear stand for trans inclusion. Fuck off and stay fucked off".

Maybe controversially, this is a clear win and a symbolic win, but it doesn't seem like a huge win.

There are few trans people using the Hampstead ponds. It's this minor local authority bylaw issue that's been blown up into a major thing because TERFs can't take no for an answer.
BREAKING: WIN 🏳️‍⚧️ 💥

The High Court just refused Sex Matters' permission to ban trans women from the Hampstead ponds. We're relieved that the ponds can remain a place where trans people have always belonged.

Thank you to the all the people that pushed back against division.

It's weird: they're incredibly accurate about the things I know nothing about, and astonishingly, abundantly inaccurate about the things I'm already an expert on. Just like the newspapers. I don't see any reason to examine this trend further.
How? How do you double-check the accuracy, if you're not already an expert? Ask a different GenAI? Or do you, you know... Have to go and do the research you would have done anyway, pre-AI? Because I'm buggered if I can think of how you do that in a way where the GenAI saved you time.

Random post breaking containment means wading through some slightly odd replies and quotes. For clarity, I am aware that people other than Andrew Wakefield are bad. I think there are lots of people who should be tried for mass murder.

That means she was alive during the Napoleonic Wars, the Boston Tea Party, Charles Darwin, and ABBA winning Eurovision.

ran into a friend at a cafe who mentioned his wife is having an emotional affair with chatgpt, missed that the "chat model was much hornier last spring," and that they're getting divorced but her chat & his chat negotiated the terms of the divorce over several weeks. They were together for 18 yrs.
most cafe conversations blend into the background for me, but as soon as a man starts the “do you use ChatGPT? I’ve started using it for…” conversation within a 10 table radius, I feel my brain short circuiting

I don't exaggerate when I say that Andrew Wakefield should be tried for mass murder. We'll never know how many people have died or will die as a direct result of his fraudulent study.
This is the large domino, with the small domino being some random quack in the UK in 1998 trying to undermine the existing MMR vaccine so his business partner can swoop in with his own. Instead he lost his work credentials and now kids are dying needlessly all over the world, so great job everyone.
Austria loses its WHO status as measles-free, too, together with Armenia, Azerbaijan Uzbekistan and Spain. This comes as no surprise, considering the rise in numbers in recent years and the decline in MMR vaccine coverage

She was transgender.

She was murdered *because* she was transgender.

But because politicians don't want to have to reckon with the fact that the 'gender critical' ideology their dinner party friends espouse has blood on its hands, we're all meant to magically forget that fact.

There is a much simpler way they could make more money from it. Halve the price, drop everything from it except the Star Trek stuff which is the only reason anyone subscribes, and rename it "The Star Trek Channel".

The soon-to-be-signed Trump-Schumer Deal is a betrayal of the American people.

I'll tell you why: ICE has all the money it needs from the "Big Beautiful Bill"—it's the other spending bills Trump is worried about.

Schumer's about to give him all he wants.

Incredible. Millions are newly-mobilized, questioning how their taxes are being used to hurt their neighbors.

Republicans are in a terrible position.
Democrats have huge leverage.

And they may just go ahead and give DHS more money — as long as they slap on a few rules DHS is already not following.
Chuck Schumer just announced demands on DHS to avoid shutdown:
1. End roving patrols, tighten rules on warrants
2. Enforce accountability & unified code of conduct for agents
3. No more masks & require bodycams

There are *already* standards on much of this.

The issue is DHS isn't following them!

My Latin speaking peeps: @shadowspar.bsky.social was looking for a good Latin equivalent of "fuck around, find out" and this was my attempt, but I know it's not perfect; who's got better?
This took me a pleasant side quest of refreshing my Latin obscene vocabulary and it's a *very* loose rendering, but I humbly offer "sī scortāris, pēdīcāberis", which if I've got my conjugations right (always a big if) is "if you go whoring around, you're going to get fucked"

This for linguistics too, there are so many cooler things happening in modern linguistics than outdated stuff from the 1940s to build your scifi on!!
The other advantage for your scifi of being a scientist in your real life is that you have a picture of all the current research. Don't build stories on outdated science from the 20th century. I legit take notes on every seminar I can get to, even if it's unrelated to my thesis. Bc it's for scifi.
My advice to aspiring young hard SF authors who can go to college is literally to study science. You need to love it to the point of wanting to become it to write really good hard SF. If anything feels like a chore to study, it’ll read like a chore too. Don’t write it if you’re not in love with it.

As a baby mushroom you know it as the cheap white button mushroom, as a kid mushroom it's called a cremini, as an adult it's called a portabella.

Same mushroom.
