The ability to convince capital markets to hand you a trillion dollars on the strength of obvious bullshit paired with the inability to get a single human to sincerely and spontaneously say they love you is some real punishment of the gods shit.

A social scientist studying AI instead of people is decidedly *not* a social scientist and should immediately cede their research position to someone who actually knows how to do the job.
LLMs are now widely used in social science as stand-ins for humans—assuming they can produce realistic, human-like text
But... can they? We don’t actually know.
In our new study, we develop a Computational Turing Test.
And our findings are striking:
LLMs may be far less human-like than we think.🧵

It’s that time of the year again! My family’s 11th annual re-watch of Big Hero 6 will commence in just a few minutes!
10 years ago tonight my wife and I went to the movies to watch Big Hero 6. Later that night, suddenly and 3 weeks sooner than we expected, we became parents.
Every year since that night, we’ve rewatched the film as a family on our daughter’s birthday eve, and every time it’s still a wonderful movie

This was years ago. I got into a small argument with a guy because he thought Moomins were annoying and claimed they were American. They're neither of those things, they're adorable and Finnish like me. It took WAY too long to realise he mistook Moomins for Mormons. Still makes me laugh.
Do you remember sharing a story about talking to a guy who mixed up Moomins and Mormons? Might have been on LinkedIn. But I recently talked to a friend who's spent time in Helsinki and who's a big Moomin fan, and the story came up 😅

I literally remember this as if it was yesterday. I lived in Massachusetts at the time, and opening day in my local theater was sold out (to everyone's surprise). I watched it the next night and it was an amazing movie (and still is)

EXCUSE ME BUT WILL SOME OF THAT CASH GO TOWARDS THE AUTHORS OF THE AFOREMENTIONED BOOKS PLEASE AND THANK YOU
OpenAI pirated large numbers of books and used them to train models.
OpenAI then deleted the dataset with the pirated books, and employees sent each other messages about doing so.
A lawsuit could now force the company to pay $150,000 per book, adding up to billions in damages.
