Yes, that’s _my_ skull. I had a bunch of medical imaging because: transient global amnesia, which is the gentlest possible way for your brain to break. No long term effects, no expectation of recurrence, and no traumatic memories. That said, it reminded me life is short and there’s a block button.

The Bad Bunny halftime show was excellent. I'm not the target audience, but it was fun and joyous and inclusive. Two thumbs up. And now, having had a brief intermission for halftime I need to switch from governing mode to fantasy author mode.

Collectors and Sally Forth fans can buy something pretty cool and help families of Minneapolis school students. (Jim Keefe is the cartoonist who has drawn the Sally Forth comic since 2013; he lives here.)
I have original art for a Sally Forth Sunday page up for sale on eBay. Art features the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport. All net proceeds of the sale will go to a local Minneapolis school which is being overwhelmed as they help families affected by ICE agents.

Newspapers only produce headlines this terrible when they are in severe distress or even dying, please be kind.
Analysis: Weeks before he set foot on the stage, Bad Bunny’s halftime performance had already become a media event.

But if you were looking for political commentary, the closest that you got was when he said “God bless America” in English.
Analysis | Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show was expected to provoke. Did it?
The Bad Bunny Super Bowl show nodded to injustices in Puerto Rico but mostly evoked wholesome family values that meshed with the more sentimental commercials.

I kind of maxed out on alarmed a few months back. Can I go with “yep, I am aware,” and keep working on it instead of lighting my hair on fire? I think that’ll be more useful and sustainable, thanks.

the thing i'm waiting for with the ai romance novel lady is for another scammer to figure out that purely ai-generated material w no human authorship is generally not considered to be protected by copyright in the US rn, and saving themselves the 45 mins per book by reselling hers

The idea that she thinks it’s a race is a profound indictment of her moral development. There are several others, but I’ll let that one stand alone.
“If I can generate a book in a day, and you need six months to write a book, who’s going to win the race?” God this is bleak

this is the reason chatbots become an addiction:

for some people, they need a "reward" for taking in advice or info

and getting an "answer" that feels tailored "just for you" is a MUCH bigger reward than doing the work yourself of reading "general" advice and applying it yourself
there’s s something about the chat boxes that really rewires people’s brains…at least among my friends who use them, it’s the *first* thing they ask for any question. quite insidious

To those who believe that Trump and the Republicans have some grand scheme in place to cancel the midterms:

Do you know who's acting like there *will* be midterms?

*TRUMP AND THE REPUBLICANS*

It's why *he* tried to re-draw maps and why *they* are retiring in droves.

Don't psych yourselves out.

It's weird how proud they all are of tricking people into paying for valueless crap. You're not a writer, you're a scammer. Explicitly! By your own admission!
fuck this lady, fuck the nyt reporter, fuck all of this. fuck amazon for introducing the KU page read model that makes this possible, fuck our tech overlords.

NEW: The Trump admin certainly put on a show last week about changing tactics in Minnesota after ICE agents killed Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old VA nurse.

Trump even suggested it's time for "a softer touch."

Except residents say nothing has changed. At all. www.huffpost.com/entry/ice-mi...

Two weeks after Alex Pretti’s killing, federal agents have shown no signs of backing down. The resistance definitely hasn't.

The common 🧵 in every single election, from Susan Crawford in Wisconsin to Zohran Mamdani in NYC to Taylor Rehmet in Texas, is that a clear majority of voters don't like evil, hate, incompetence, & far right authoritarianism. The policy details are election-specific, but that's the hummable tune.
Data / quant note: What model or message testing predicted how public opinion would shift 32 points in one year in this Texas seat?

None. No quant data could solely determine the correct message for this, no linear model could based on ad tests or issue polls.

the magic of the Muppets is that there are two fourth walls. they constantly break the one that reminds the audience they are performers. they NEVER break the one that reminds the audience they are puppets. this dynamic is the key to their entire comedy style

If you can’t even trust your LLM not to switch sides when trying to run a scam, this tech might not have legs…
This morning, I got one of those scam emails that are currently abundant in the writing community, where someone offers to "feature" your book at a book club for a fee. These messages always include an effuse essay about how great your book is, written by a LLM.

ICE exists to enforce CIVIL immigration law, not CRIMINAL law of any kind. Ergo, there is no legal justification for them:

* to be armed.
* to be masked.
* to kidnap anyone they want when they require judicial warrants to make CIVIL arrests.
* to provide security for the Vice President, ever.
