The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

@thirdwindowfilms.com Love Third Window, and I’m accumulating quite a a pile of them, but the lack of a resume function drives us crazy as we almost always split a movie over two nights. I gather BD-J is the reason, and wondering if there’s any plans to change that going forward?

made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

@dankmccoy.bsky.social Walked into the kitchen, and my wife was watching On Becoming a Guinea Fowl. I looked it up on Letterboxd, and mentioned “Dan McCoy has it marked as *want to watch*”, which elicited an “oh wow!” Siskel & Ebert eat your hearts out!

Dying in a mental asylum in 2004 because I went back in time to tell people that The Apprentice would lead to the end of medical research, the Civil Rights Act, and birthright citizenship.

"Every Sunday, Cornelius Ticketmaster IV drives his Lincoln Navigator nine blocks to check in with his son, Prestige, a DJ and bumfight promoter who lives in a former hospital that the family bought in 2017 and turned into a 'cryptocurrency supper club.' But now, Corn says, it's not in the budget."

Social media platforms are no more a "public square" than the inside of a grocery store. These are products offered by companies. Robust moderation is the prerogative of any private entity.
Most media companies are happy to purvey propaganda. But they are under no obligation to do so.

why is it so hard for people to understand that "no reasonable expectation of privacy" and "not expecting to be some dip shit's social media content" are different things

one way to think about the dems in the last 8 years is that they wanted all the electoral benefits of being a popular front against authoritarianism but none of the substantive commitments

@parkermolloy.com As a counter to terfs posting their childlike understanding of biology, I was really pleased to see science communicator and clinical neurologist Steve Novella post his encounter Jerry Coyne. Not that actual biology is persuasive to bigots, but… theness.com/neurologicab...

Really hope we can dispense once and for all with the notion that Trump voters are suffering, misguided, and misunderstood when they’re being so vocally and insistently like “we want ethnic cleansing.”
I've seen a lot of one-offs of people holding these signs, but what is truly chilling is a sea of these being held up by delegates.

I cannot emphasize enough - we have a global pathway to net zero. That pathway burns to cinders the moment we accept powering “AI” as an acceptable use of energy. Climate action is wholly incompatible with expansion of “AI”
