it is an underrated miracle of the 21st century that we really did massively, massively reduce bullying in schools
My experience as well. So far we're 2-for-2 on kids having a largely bullying/abuse-free middle school experience. Not without bumpy spots of course, but light years away from what I endured.

My hot take: the anti-bullying stuff has really worked, which is why conservatives are pushing back at it.
for what it’s worth I got roped into helping out with my sixth grader’s extracurricular thing so I’ve had more recent contact with middle schoolers who aren’t mine than I usually do, and biased sample/biased reviewer/etc but my verdict is that the kids are all right

The idea that this, of all companies, could take over Warner Brothers is just...horrific and insane. It's like saying, "Hey, I have a great idea--what if the Discovery Channel took over HBO?"

Wait.

Oh shit.

About 90,000 people living near larger chemical plants face an unacceptable risk of developing cancer, the EPA says.

New rules adopted last year could’ve cut that number to 3,000 residents — a drop of 97%.

But Trump has halted those efforts.
Air Pollution From Industrial Facilities Is Far Worse Than Estimated
The Trump administration has put a stop to EPA rules that would have required more than 130 industrial facilities to install air monitors to measure pollution. Millions of people living near these pla...

They misidentified the intern. The judge told them they had misidentified the intern. But instead of double checking, they took that as an affront to their authority. So they surrounded the judge's car and threatened to smash the windows to get to the intern.

They had misidentified the intern.
The part where they threatened to break a judge’s car windows should be a bigger story … they feel comfortable treating judges this way, which means they are being told that they can do literally anything to nearly everyone

Painting LaGuardia as a fiscal conservative by citing his initial struggles upon taking over New York at the height of the Depression requires you to also paint the New Deal as fiscally conservative, eh? The New Deal was democratic socialism in full and LaGuardia embraced it. You're a pretzel here.
You'll hear this "Mamdani loves LaGuardia... and LaGuardia governed as a socialist" refrain a lot in the next few weeks, and it ain't true. LaGuardia governed as a New Dealer within the limits of city govt; his first step in office was to cut staff and salaries $ to bring NYs budget into balance. /1
In honor of last night's victory by a progressive, I offer this memory of the greatest big-city mayor in U.S. history, a man of the left who also governed as a socialist. If Mr. Mamdani goes on WNYC this Sunday and reads the funny papers to kids my heart will burst.

this is such a great encapsulation of why this race feels existential even to people outside NYC. Cuomo as the final boss of everything wrong with the current Democratic Party, Mamdani happily grabbing the third rails everyone’s told are too dangerous to touch (trans people, Muslims, socialism)
It's uncanny how Cuomo has been laser-focused at appealing to the absolute worst qualities in people - their insularity, their tribalism, and now their fear. A campaign monumental in its cynicism, a colossal bet by this man and his billionaire backers that people are basically bad.
This isn't a closing election argument, it's Vidkun Quisling explaining why surrender is better than resistance.
