Chief Meteorologist at WBZ-TV in Boston, MA.

Storms, nature, sports, beer. Not necessarily in that order.
After this morning, I believe Boston is the last site left to not reach the freezing mark this autumn

First 32F in Providence ✔️ (12th latest on record)

First 32F Blue Hill ✔️ (8th latest on record)

First 32F Nantucket ✔️

Possibly next week but not a guarantee

Snow in November for Boston. Even odds of measurable snow vs no snow over the past 130+ years. Of course, better odds for interior areas. #wbz

Looking like a very nice start to the weekend as showers depart early Saturday AM. Rain returns late on Sunday. Coolest air of the season thus far arrives for Veterans Day

Just shy of the record for longest wait for a high <50F in Boston (record is 11/15). #wbz

Peak gusts for late tonight have trended down a bit over the past 24 hours. Expecting most to gust 40-50mph, with the highest chance of 50+ being on Cape Cod/Islands and Cape Ann. #wbz

A brief (but intense) burst of wind expected for a few hours late Wednesday night. Gusts 50-65mph likely with scattered tree damage/power issues expected. More on #wbz

Sometimes it feels like the door slams shut pretty quickly once Halloween is over. It's dark at 430p now, and we have our first legit cold blast lurking about a week out. Cold season start your engines. #wbz

Google's DeepMind model has been exceptionally good 🌀
And here is the same, but for all 13 storms in the entire season so far. "OFCL" is the NHC's forecast, and "GDMI" is the Google #DeepMind ensemble mean and is the leading model for both track and intensity this season.

After our band of downpours tonight, wind on the way late tomorrow

Strongest winds will come Friday night as a strong low-level jet swings across SNE

Peak gusts 40-50mph

Feisty night tomorrow with tropical downpours and gusty winds. Adding another 1-3" of rain to the October bucket before we close up the month. More on #wbz

NEW: Devastating imagery from Jamaica, before & after Category 5 Hurricane Melissa.

Black River — near total destruction.

We have official LANDFALL near New Hope, Jamaica

#Melissa officially ties the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane as the most intense Atlantic hurricane landfall on record

Min pressure 892mb
Max sustained winds 185mph
October 28, 2025 at 5:07 PM
This dropsonde into the south eyewall is off the charts. Bonkers stuff more reminiscent of the strongest Super Typhoons in the West Pacific. #Melissa

At 892mb and 1-2 hours from landfall, Melissa would tie the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 for lowest pressure at landfall on record in the Atlantic Basin

Max sustained winds up to 185mph! Though the most intense winds are tightly held around the eye...hurricane force winds extend only 30 miles out

The western end of Jamaica where #Melissa is projected to make landfall has the least well-built structures of anyplace on the island. Graphic is from a 2021 paper, "Poverty and hurricane risk exposure in Jamaica": www.researchgate.net/publication/...

A truly incredible ring of <80ºC cloud tops perfectly ringing Melissa's eye tonight

May squeeze out a little more intensity from those very warm Caribbean waters overnight before landfall tomorrow

This is...not even close to true

Honestly everyone is probably better off ignoring 90-95% of everything on the internet these days
The incredibly slow forward speed of Hurricane Melissa means Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Domincan R. are experiencing Category 5 hurricane strength for DAYS instead of hours. The storm won't fully exit the Caribbean until Wednesday.

200 mile per hour wind guests for three days straight... my god.

And there we have it. #Melissa's WV eye temperature has broken -5°C, making it warmer than any other eye observed through geostationary water vapor imagery. Takes an upper echelon warm core for this

Some truly incredible stuff. You don't see eyes like this very often. Melissa is a force
From a crewmember on yesterday's Teal 74 mission into now-Category 5 Hurricane #Melissa. As clear of an eye as you will see in the Atlantic basin.

For all of July/August/September/October, it only rained on one Saturday.

Do we forgive nature for the spring Saturday rut yet?

NHC calling for #Melissa to reach Category 4 strength by late weekend as it tracks near Jamaica. Eventually, a turn north across Cuba is expected next week. #wbz
