starmer is doing all the anti-immigrant and anti-trans "popularism" stuff the centrists are demanding US dems do and this is the predictable result:
The government's net approval rating has fallen to -59, Labour's lowest score to date

Approve: 11% (-2 from 23-25 August)
Disapprove: 70% (+3)
Net: -59 (-5)

Every pundit who took at face value the idea that the Right sincerely cares about free speech, or ideological diversity, or in fact has any principles at all, should be wearing a dunce cap and writing a lengthy mea culpa right now. Not for our catharsis but for public awareness at least

Incredible achievement that the one price that the Trump administration has brought down notably is "cocaine."
The Trump-Miller administration's single-minded focus on migration is starting to impact the availability of drugs in the US, according to this detail from a very good investigation @wsj.com published today.

perhaps nothing is more ingrained in our collective consciousness than the idea that if you get angry enough and have nothing else you feel like living for, the standard move is to pick up a gun and go find someone(s) to use it on.

This is correct. Any candidate cynically “triangulating” on trans kids is a non-starter, and now is the time to say so. There’s still so much time to advance candidates that DON’T suck.
I will never, ever vote for Gavin Newsom. Ever, under any circumstances. I don't care if he becomes the Dem nominee, he's still not getting my vote.
On a recent podcast Gavin Newsom tells Shawn Ryan how the Trans sports issue opened the door for him to change his mind on GAC for Trans Youth.

As someone who adored him since 2004 and voted for him 5 times, I can't wait for him to leave office.

There is no way I will be voting for him a 6th time.

It's actually funny how much everyone has forgotten about "violent video games cause violence". It was a massive talking point for years, and now we have an assassin who put a video game meme on the bullet and no one is even suggesting it.

It's sort of funny how in this case the shooter is still alive, and we could actually just ask him why he done it, instead of everyone posting AI altered images of him in high school wearing tshirts of their political enemies or whatever.

we passed this point long ago. the Christchurch shooter murdered more than 50 people for the memes. if you don't realize that was part of the point for him you don't understand this stuff.
The prospect of large scale violence committed, more or less, for the memes, is terrifying. And if we're not there already, we are rapidly speeding towards it.
If this was straightforward internecine conflict of fash-on-fash violence, that would be a difficult concept to swallow for most people.

But the idea that young disturbed men are using "normal" political categories as accoutrements to their abyssal anti-logic... where do you even fucking start?

Now that Kirk's killer seems to be caught, maybe the news could spare a moment's attention for the right wing, from the commentariat up to the GOP and president, whose immediate reaction was not mourning, but to seize the opportunity to try to incite violence against groups they hate

The one time we got the smoking gun of undeniable ideology that mapped neatly onto american partisanship in political violence was J6, and we decided it was too scary to treat it as such, so now we return to deciphering memes of school shooters like medieval peasants panicking at an eclipse.

There are very, VERY few people who are equipped to talk about this shooter correctly given the brainrot written on the shell casing. You have to understand so much of online culture to get it and also understand how that culture is both connected to and separate from real world ideological spaces

(1/4) a lot of people in the liberal west see democracy and capitalism as analogues of each other in their respective spheres, political and economic.

in reality capitalism is closer to monarchism and it is no coincidence that conservatives in monarchist countries tend to support both:
