WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump administration says it's freezing child care funds to Minnesota after a series of fraud schemes in recent years.

Young anti-wokes pining for the 90’s would be like deserting the army with a time machine and getting dumped in the middle of the Battle of Passchendaele

I am at the RMV and I am going to be the single most pleasant and prepared, may I even venture charming, customer this civil employee will has seen all week

I wonder if Kat realizes her last tweet is a very easy way to describe a psychopath
Real "oh my god, she admit it" moment here. Trump is treated as an uninteresting figure without agency so we can dump endless criticism on liberals for how they react to his "natural disaster." He "doesn't participate in moral frameworks" lmfao

This is the result of men choosing to cyberbully themselves. They watch the most unhinged short form video content until their self-loathing makes the drywall in their room rot.
Decades of the white nationalist movement evolving to adapt to current political trends has brought them to this moment.

An idea I revisit about Millennial and Gen X maga evangelicals is all of these people have read CS Lewis and without getting into the weeds about the merits of his work…

If CSL had lived to see Trumpism, The Screwtape Letters would be a trilogy

Short form video dating discourse is entering like, dispatches from hell territory. Like soldiers in trenches begging a god they don't believe in for the shelling to stop.

A compromise: you can have your AI SA simulator but you have to talk to her in front of your mother
"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.

I did think the emphasis on Gorby felt a little weird in the book. It was often like “Gorbachev made catastrophic errors. Was this due in part to the vast army of rent-seeking political thieves that had literal guns to his head? I guess but…”
I think zubok has swung the consensus too far toward "blame gorbachev", which absolves the system a bit. If you point to a single man as the cause of an empire’s downfall, you really ought to ask how the fate of an empire came to hinge on a single man.

Conservative intellectuals who are disturbed by the Hitler Shift have a future of pulling night shifts at Lowe's.
Heritage Foundation implosion has been a wakeup call for some conservatives about dangerous trends on Trump-era right. I hope they will see that nationalism is inherently prone to bigotry, and reject it in favor of universal principles of the Founding: reason.com/volokh/2025/...
Lessons of the Heritage Foundation's Implosion
The decline of this major conservative institution has been a wakeup call for conservative intellectuals. But will they draw the right lessons from it?

It's actually humiliating to explain to a grown up who works at a newspaper what "sides" mean when the subject is a necessarily negative word
the most notable thing JD Vance has done in the last five years is tell vicious racist lies about immigrants. If you think he hasn't taken a side on bigotry, you are an idiot. He's for it. He's very strongly for it.

I don't know if the Epstein Nassar letter is authentic and I get the instinct to treat it as implausible because, come the fuck on.

OTOH, this is a guy that kept photos of Lolita quotes handwritten on human skin. It's difficult to wrap our heads around it but Epstein LOVED being a pedophile
