The EU’s Digital Omnibus could roll back key parts of the GDPR, AI Act, and ePrivacy rules — laws that set global standards for privacy and AI. Leaked drafts suggest companies could get more leeway on data use and slower enforcement, reports Ramsha Jahangir (@ramshajahangir.bsky.social):

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

There is a body under each of these crosses. These American service men gave their lives to save Europe from itself. Now the American government desecrates their memory. It is very painful.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I did some googling and Spain and Japan both had 50-year mortgages at the height of their property bubbles

The idea was you could pass your mortgage down to your kids or grandkids

Both of their housing markets crashed disastrously and the people who took them out were often ruined

The argument here is basically “Since air travel pollutes way more than cars, I doesn’t matter if I buy a giant pickup truck that gets 5 miles per gallon.”

Which is more about assuaging guilt for using something with a known negative impact.

James A Garfield, who fell to an assassin's bullet (or more accurately, to medical malpractice) in 1881, is regularly reckoned by historians as one of America's greatest presidents, yet few know his name. This short series tells the remarkable story of the Garfield seven-month presidency.

Altman says AI is too big to fail and "the government ends up as the insurer of last resort."

So, they jack up our water and electricity rates, ruin the internet, destroy our environment... and we're supposed to fork over taxpayer dollars to bail them out when it all goes to shit???

Yeah.
I want to briefly elaborate on this. A few know of what I’m going to write. Between 2017 & 2023 I leveraged every senior level contact - including one of the most who is an institution unto himself & great mentor - to try to get picked up where I could be of use. 1/
And some research institutions that can actually help drive things forward while also doing damage control or better yet prevention. Because the ones we’ve got are largely useless & part of how we got into this mess.

The AP does exactly what professional journalists are supposed to do: identify and describe some of the 60 plus persons summarily executed by Trump and Hegseth. One was a fisherman struggling to eke out a living on $100 a month. Another was a career criminal. A third was a former military cadet.
Trump has accused boat crews of being narco-terrorists. The truth, AP found, is more nuanced
