BREAKING: Judge Ana Reyes, in DC, issues a stay of DHS Sec. Noem’s decision to end Haiti’s temporary protected status (TPS) designation, a decision that was to go into effect on Tuesday and could have ended legal status for up to 350,000 people overnight. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

To anyone tempted to celebrate Noem's big announcement that ICE will use body cams and that it will be expanded nationwide as funding is available...

That's already been official ICE policy for over two years.

Love that policymakers haven’t even bothered to learn how the current system works.

At a bare minimum, all these rich men were still emailing him, asking to visit the island, getting his advice on women (and obviously much worse), and generally kissing his ass for years after this.
And I believe 2013 is after 2008, chronologically speaking.

DHS doesn’t even bother trying to lie well. The man whose skull was shattered told the hospital he’d been struck by ICE officers, an ICE officer told hospital staff the guy “got his sh*t rocked,” then when it became clear how badly he was injured, they claimed he deliberately ran into a wall.

new: Minnesota Timberwolves chaplain and activist Matt Moberg FaceTimed me from an ICE blanketed parking lot about his empathy for Anthony Edwards, Wemby's provocative statement about the Spurs, and the value (if any) of athletes speaking out.

we ended early because ICE tried to arrest his mom.
Q&A: The Minnesota Timberwolves chaplain who wants NBA stars to melt ICE without slipping
Matt Moberg's righteous fury with Donald Trump's immigration crackdown went viral. But he preaches empathy for the NBA stars figuring out how to stand for others without losing themselves.

How could it be fascism if it’s wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross?
The WSJ is really in denial mode.

I visited hotels all over Minneapolis, went into back rooms & talked to the staff.

They're afraid.

One told me she resents how her undocumented coworkers spend their days cleaning the rooms of agents who are “hunting down their family members.”

Minneapolis’ Hotel Workers Are on Edge
Staff across the city told NOTUS how their lives have changed since the start of the federal immigration operation. “It's frightening,” one said.

Wemby’s paying attention and knows that noncitizens have freedom of speech only up to the point where they annoy Marco Rubio enough that he writes a vague letter. Then it’s just detention and stacked courts against you.
San Antonio Spurs NBA star Victor Wembanyama says that he's "horrified" by what he's seeing, but "I'm conscious that saying everything that's on my mind would have a cost that's too great for me right now," speaking "as a foreigner." HORRIFYING! We are not a free country! Evil.

What is going on in the nation's immigration courts right now is an absolute scandal.

As always this is not remotely how this provision works. It's for arriving individuals inadmissible for reasons that wouldn't subject them to expedited removal.

That's almost no one.

No rational reading of the statute allows anything close to this.
HORRIFIC: the Trump admin is reportedly planning to dump hundreds of parents and children arrested in the interior (including Minneapolis) into extraordinarily dangerous Mexican border towns, and make them run a gauntlet of kidnappers if they want kangaroo court hearings.
Scoop: Trump admin plans to remove ~400 individuals, including children and families, to Mexico in first known restart of controversial “Remain in Mexico” policy during Trump’s 2nd term, sources tell me and Jake Traylor @ms.now

They’re set to be removed as early as Tuesday from TX and AZ to Mexico

I spoke with a dem senator this week who was actually seriously contemplating giving DHS more money because it meant body cameras & therefore accountability.

1. That opinion was problematic always.
2. That opinion is outrageous after today’s events.

Dems need to step up or move out of the way.

We owe an incredible debt to the Minnesotans who are on the streets protesting and documenting what is happening.

Grabbing people off the street is only the first layer of harm. Behind the scenes, government lawyers push a bad faith and unlawful expansion of mandatory detention. And DOJ circulates secret guidance telling immigration judges to ignore a class action ruling finding the expansion plainly illegal.

Regardless, detention is a choice. They have all the authority in the world to just NOT detain someone and instruct them to report back in a few days with their documents through a process called deferred inspection. But the policy choice now is to lock people up whenever they can.
Deleted my comment on the Jung Hoo Lee situation because it seems like the kind of thing that happens not infrequently to foreign born baseball players around this time of year and not an overreach by CBP. Visa stuff does happen around spring training.

🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!

ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.

Trump is now confusing Greenland and Iceland: "They're not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money."

Makes me think of that classic of Soviet humor: in a labor camp in Siberia, one prisoner turns to the other and says "if only comrade Stalin knew..."
Tillis: "To be clear -- I'm not critical of the president. I'm critical of the bad advice he's getting on Greenland."
January 20, 2026 at 2:42 PM
We, being a major military power, *must* attack the Danes because the Danes are incapable of defending their land against a major military power.

Wonder where that line of logic ends?
Miller: Denmark is a tiny country with a tiny economy and a tiny military. They cannot defend Greenland… Under every understanding of law that has existed about territorial control for 500 years, to control a territory you have to be able to defend a territory…
