when MLB dropped "diversity" from its career site, I reached out to every team, including those with live DEI pages.

None committed to their current efforts. Almost nobody responded!

One week before Jackie Robinson Day, my take on the leaguewide silence:

Most MLB teams have DEI programs. Why won’t any commit to them or talk about it? | Opinion
In the Trump era, when even Jackie Robinson is at risk, the sport is quiet about diversity efforts it used to tout. | Opinion

so much to cover right now, but a thread i just want to throw out there from my reporting is that the car rental market in minneapolis is reportedly totally screwed up right now because ICE has cleared the inventory. rental companies should have to answer for supplying vehicles used in terror.

With the news that it's closing literally hundreds of stores going around, I wrote about the slow, agonizing death of GameStop, which once began as a humble electronics store in Dallas that counted a guy named Ross Perot among its investors: www.chron.com/culture/arti...
As it shutters stores, is this really the end of Texas-based GameStop?
Once a company that got investment from Ross Perot, Grapevine-based GameStop looks to be on its last legs.

One of my last columns for the Fort Worth Star Telegram was about mayor Mattie Parker's attempts to silence her critics, including through limiting opportunities for public comment.

under persistent pressure from those critics, the mayor voted to double public comment sessions.

Journalists often go on hand-fed ride-alongs with agents.

Seldom, though, do they get into the cars of everyday people protecting their communities from those same agents.

We just did exactly that, in ICE-occupied Minneapolis:

years ago (like 2023) I asked around on Twitter if anyone knew the people who run r/baseball. I started DM-ing with someone, but never followed up.

so just putting it out there again: anyone know the mods? I'd love to connect.

I wore an ICE OUT shirt while courtside at the Timberwolves game yesterday. Security initially said I needed to give them the shirt (I didn't), but later clarified that I just needed to wear something else. Here's a nice write-up about it by Jon Krawczynski ✊
