There's an old saying that every health and safety regulation is written in blood. That is especially true of Worksafe, which was created in response to the deaths of 29 men at Pike River Mine as well as Helen Kelly's campaign for the widows of forestry workers. And Brooke van Velden hates it.
The Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety’s announcement today on gutting WorkSafe’s enforcement capability signals a return to a failed approach, that will weaken our health and safety system. Read the full release here: union.org.nz/government-guts-worksafe/

I pointed my camera at NZ's highest mountain Aoraki Mt Cook for a few minutes, the light & cloud was sublime.

Petition of Tu Chapman: Stop the gender bill by NZ First

#ProtectOurWhānau #TransRightsAreHumanRights #AotearoaForAll
This petition to stop NZ First's stupid sex definitions bill has been open for nearly a week and has 1.2k signatures

The hate group's petition that spawned this bill took four months to get 2.2k signatures

Let's show just how little hate there is

The only way to make the Ides of April as famous is to murder the equivalent Julius Caesar of today's equivalent Rome.
Today is the Ides of April. Not that anyone cares. Nooo, the only Ides you people care about is in March. Because it's famous.

If just six government ministers supported the bill to sanction Israel, it would pass. Christopher would be SO mad if you pressured your MPs into voting for their conscience so you definitely shouldn't use this list to call your MP right now and tell them to vote for this bill:

When whānau and tamariki are having to hide behind locked doors it's not "going too far", it's terrorism.
When whānau and tamariki are having to hide behind locked doors while a crowd tries to break them down you have to stop calling it a difference of opinion you shouldn't do anything about.

Well Super Bowl Saturday is over and neither team showed up, nor did the fans. A totally empty stadium! This whole debacle is a complete embarrassment for the NFL. Thank god the TV stations forgot to broadcast it too.

This has been, by far, the worst week of news in my 9 years of covering trans issues.

It is SO important to have your say on the govts proposed restrictions on puberty blockers. They are cutting access for trans people to good healthcare for no reason and against all medical evidence and advice. Here's how you put in a submission: insideout.org.nz/submission-g...

it's time we remembered the word "collaborator"
The Senate has voted 84-9 to advance a bill that would direct ICE to subject migrants to detention if they were accused (not even necessarily guilty) of theft crimes like shoplifting & empower states to undermine federal immigration policy and even go after individual migrants.

Nope-universities are not neutral. They're evidence-led. They stand for rigorous, evidenced claims, openness to scrutiny but consensus on facts.

"Institutional neutrality" is a calling-card of rightwing orgs in the US, leading to policing classrooms & breaches of academic freedom. Don't fall for it
