This is totalitarianism. Not rule of law democracy. And everyone who excused thus is potentially signing this nation’s death warrant.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

@onthemedia.bsky.social, if nothing else, today’s episode shared my pain and made me happy.
I sent this a week ago with no expectation that it would stop the texts (and it hasn't), but it still felt good to put this in writing.

Of course it's a drop in the bucket. But I don't want the idea of a privately-funded U.S. military to gain the least bit of traction - or precedent.
Probably not a good thing when the revelation of the oligarch who sent $130m to pay troops identity is revealed and the photo used is 44 years old and the headline includes "reclusive." www.nytimes.com/2025/10/25/u...

To the scolds posting about how these big nonviolent protests are just for lame normies: _this_ is why it matters to get hundreds of thousands of people in one place yelling & waving signs: not just to create solidarity among those there, but to create images that show our huge numbers to the world.

They tell me that Susan Stamberg is dead, but I don’t have to believe it if I don’t want to.

(With apologies to John O’Hara and George Gershwin)

What I said on Facebook 9 years ago remains true. I am grateful for Susan's role as one of the founding voices of NPR, now more than ever.

They are cooking the books on job creation.

Now they are rigging death numbers so no one knows how many people die because of their attacks on vaccines and science.

When Democrats controlled the White House, Senate and House there were no shutdowns because we acted like adults and negotiated with Republicans.

Now Republicans control everything and they're refusing to even show up for work. Because they think the chaos of a shutdown is fun.

The First Amendment, of course, famously says, "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech in designated free speech zones, but outside of those the militarized police can arrest you for saying anything that hurts their feelings."
ISP declares unlawful assembly again via loudspeaker now.

Unsure why since all people are doing right now is standing on the sidewalk where they've been ordered to be.

They're telling people they have to either disperse or return to designated free speech zone.

The reason we have rules of engagement isn’t to keep warfighters from killing our enemies.

It’s to keep them from killing a farmer with a shovel bc they thought it was a rifle and didn’t bother to wait to check.

Or a family in a car bc the driver looked nervous.

Or a boat full of fishermen.
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."
