And when you secretly know your career would be maybe half of what it is if not for Tolkien's work that made fantasy fiction a commercially viable possibility, 'cause Elric sure as hell wasn't going to get it done on his own. I like Moorcock's work, but his Tolkien takes are beyond tiresome.

No one wins this "race"...because it isn't a race. Beyond the moral depravity of the hollow-shelled hustlers putting out this garbage, the core principle at the center of their logic is the idea that everything is about winning over someone else. No wonder our society is perpetually exhausted.
The whole article is repulsive but this passage is at the core of it. She has no interest in writing books, she wants to win some kind of competition that nobody entered

We should stop saying “AI,” at least without a qualifier like “commercial” or “generative.”

Precisely naming the tools that work & the ones that don’t & their use cases & their social & environmental consequences would go a long way towards improving our communal understanding.

Me, the DM: I'm worried I haven't prepared enough for tonight's session.
My players: I shall spend an hour examining this stream because a stranger appeared on the other side of it.
Me: cool, cool.
4 hours later... okay? Wanna move on?
