"Nearly 80 years later, the simplex method is still among the most widely used tools when a logistical or supply-chain decision needs to be made under complex constraints."

only half followed the description of the simplex method in here but super interesting anyways

Research Reveals the Optimal Way to Optimize
The leading approach to the simplex method, a widely used technique for balancing complex logistical constraints, can’t get any better.

Parents, please check your kids’ candy this Halloween. I’ve just found an ancient metal whistle with the inscription “QUIS EST ISTE QUI VENIT" inside a Snickers bar. I blew it and heard a note of infinite distance, and now I’m haunted by a figure in pale, fluttering draperies. Be safe.

How many times, in how many contexts, from how many internal and external researchers, or from how many CEO's are people going to have to receive this message before they believe it:

"Hallucinations" are an inherent part of the large language model architecture.

Can researchers stop AI making up citations?
OpenAI’s GPT-5 hallucinates less than previous models do, but cutting hallucination completely might prove impossible.

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.
I Am An AI Hater
I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but news / social media—especially when constant, chaotic, and unfiltered—can hit our brains like a DDoS attack: overload attention, flood emotions, and make it hard to think clearly.

It’s okay to step back and curate what you let in. Your mental uptime matters.

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but
2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but
3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So
4. Now the LLM code points to malware.
LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."
LLMs can't stop making up software dependencies and sabotaging everything
: Hallucinated package names fuel 'slopsquatting'

And yes my villain origin story is people trying to explain to me in confusing detail why something I'm enjoying is "actually bad writing" when they could have just said "man idek why but I hated that shit so bad" and I would have been like "bummer, but legit"

Automatically updating content can be extremely distracting, especially for users with vestibular disorders or attention difficulties. This could force users to scroll through page content to not see the animation, or to just look away. Allow animations to be paused or stopped.

I’m really glad they pivoted to a new storyline though, because if a Winchester died and came back one more time they might as well just install a cat flap on the door to hell 🙄
Me: ooo that second Castiel encounter was MUCH less golden retriever and more scary celestial badass. I’m not sure what that does to his hotness factor.

My partner: Yes you are 😂

Me: …yeah, I am 🥵🫠
Just reached season 4 of Supernatural for the first time, and Castiel just asked Dean, “You don’t think you deserve to be saved?” with that LOOK and excuse me while I go find some fanfiction…..😳

One of my favorite moments of last night’s event was the young woman who said she was starting to write, and asked how to balance a day job with a writing career.

And I felt the call spark within me, and I leaned forward with my soberest eye and said, “I am the worst person to ask about this.”

I'm a great fan of the Holmes Basic D&D, and the inclusion of the B1 module, "In Search of the Unknown." It leads on story and creativity over number crunching. If I'd started with the Red Box, I'm not sure I'd have persevered with RPGs.

No. The point is that it doesn't have to be something big. The recipient is under no obligation. By saying it has to be something big you're back to making people feel helpless.

Put a hat on a baby. Buy someone a sandwich. Do something small.

I can't fix the goddamned world but that's OK. I can put some hats on babies, some food in bellies, offer comfort.

Ok so here's what I'm mad about today.

The invisibility of disabled people.

There are invisible disabilities (altho frankly they are not that invisible, we're just working our asses off hiding them) but you can be hella obvious and people don't notice.
