Age verification? I saw Star Trek: TOS in its original run.
Age verification? I got to see Superman the Movie in the theater for free because a poem I wrote about the planet Krypton won a contest they held at Kaufmann's department store in downtown Pittsburgh.
Age verification? The definitive pop star, the performance and musical standard against which I subconsciously judge all others, is a guy with a stripe painted on his nose dressed as an 18th century bandit yelling “fa-diddly-qua-qua”

NEW: Ring has introduced "Search Party", a horrifyingly dystopian feature nominally designed to turn all of the Ring cameras in a neighborhood into a dragnet that uses AI to look for, in their commercial, a cute lost dog.

With Ring, US consumers are actually building a surveillance dragnet.

people who say that all creative endeavor can be replaced with AI probably need to reckon with the fact that all televised sports events with human athletes could easily be replicated by high-definition computer-animated simulations….and yet we don’t do this and no one seems to want to.

Alison Luchs, who has worked at the National Gallery of Art for 47 years, agreed to learn Gen Z slang and make videos because she wanted to raise interest in the museum’s art.

TikTok is now State-Run Media: censored, limited, controlled, monitored. It is no longer what it was.
State-Run Media
If they were going to build state-sponsored media in America, they wouldn’t announce it.

I don't think this is actually true, but I feel it *ought* to be the case that the gerund form of the word meaning "to cut into little cubes" should be spelled "dicing" while the gerund form of the word meaning "to play with dice" should be spelled "diceing."

I believe this applies only to writers who have traditionally-published books via Amazon Publishing (imprints such as 47North). Doesn't apply to writers who self-pub via Kindle Direct Publishing.
HEY APub AUTHORS!!!

Amazon has put up a form where they (non legal terminology) sign over their half of any anthropic settlement money to you. Obvs I can not give anyone legal advice, but check this out. This could give you 2x the money.

I recently rewatched this rarely-seen 1980 production and I would say that, despite the laughable special effects, it holds up well. I do know that of all the adaptations of her work, it's the only one that Le Guin actually liked.
The Lathe of Heaven w/ Oregon Contemporary
Tickets $15. As A Larger Reality: Ursula K. Le Guin comes to a close at Oregon Contemporary, join us for a film that honors the imagination, empathy, and wonder at the heart of Le Guin’s work. Following the screening, writer Leni Zumas will be in conversation with Theo Downes-Le Guin about the film and Ursula K. Le Guin's work.

In the 1980s the top 0.001% wealthiest people in the US owned 0.3% of the total wealth of all Americans. In the original Gilded Age it was about 4%. Today it's 10-12%. So our new Gilded Age is FAR WORSE than the original.

This is the first example I’ve seen of an American government using AI to meaningfully misrepresent actual events with the intent to deceive the public. We are at Stalinesque levels of propaganda.
