a side note: you can learn *a lot* about British journalism when you realize that Boris Johnson was fired from his first job in it for serial dishonesty, and then promptly hired into a new job, where he continued to make up lies.
Not to pat my profession on the back, for all of our problems, but I do think it's to the law's credit that every US bar association that reviewed Glass' application for a license went "fuuuuuuuuuuuck no."

If you want a sense of the kind of things Liberal Currents is willing to publish under its banner of liberalism, read my magnum opus that debunks the entire 'sex based rights' scam, where I reframe that idea as a battering ram being used against the very *idea* of human rights.

It’s so bizarre how Taiwan is spending $40 billion trying to buy weapons from the United States in order to appease the guy in the White House, when that money would be far better spent getting a threshold nuclear capability

In newly leaked audio, Peter Thiel admits he urged JD Vance to ignore Pope Leo XIV on moral questions — including the ethical development of AI.

He goes even further, branding Leo “the woke American pope” and suggesting he’s a tool of the Antichrist.

In a leaked lecture, Peter Thiel says he’s urged Vance to ignore the pope on moral questions — and simply pray for him.

Renewables routinely generate more than half of U.K electricity.

They also generate thousands of jobs, reduce our exposure to volatile gas prices, and allow us to stick two fingers up to fossil-fueled dictators.

the line separating normie and poaster passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between parties either--but right through every human heart. this line shifts. inside us, it oscillates with the years. and even within hearts overwhelmed by poaster, one small bridgehead of normie is retained

That these memes seemed to work really underscores what a tremendous own goal it was for leftists to validate their logic.

Harris said the word "lethal" in her DNC speech; meanwhile Trump had a tremendously bloody record as *President.*

But a lot of online influencers only emphasised the former.

Hard for me to say how this is different from Fox News's entire business model, except that it's less sophisticated. This is transparently and obviously bad — and Elon should ban these accounts — but the spirit here of trading rage for money is pretty much a lot of right-wing media.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

To be clear: Weiss IS a center-right person herself, but this whole framing where ANYONE even in terms of media personalities is thinking about Hasan Piker or Alan Dershowitz as having huge IRL "man on the street" influence is Twitter-brain analysis.

The most revealing thing about this whole exchange is that even the people she thinks needs to be "sidelined" (except MAYBE Tucker?) already are in terms of "being mainstream" - this is another example of her/Ellison's poise being less "right-wing" than "they think Twitter is real."

Okay so in another thread there was a discussion of whether or not the Dems have a bad habit of "focusing on cultural issues to the exclusion of economic issues" and to that I say: there are no non-economic issues.

Let's take a favorite 'cultural issue' and demonstrate: trans athletes in sports.

Priorities tell you everything—and Trump’s aren’t focused on supporting the American people during this affordability crisis.

There are a lot of hidden/nonobvious upsides to being transgender, but it reveals how many gender norms are just a weird metagame layered on a neurotypical approach to relationships that honestly even in the alternate reality where I’m cisgender and heterosexual, I would still wanna shrug it off.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.
