Yeah, that's it for me. I'm logging off for a few days because this is starting to genuinely be pretty bad for my health.

What particularly sucks about all of this is that House Democrats held the line, the DNC held the line, goddamn *Schumer* held the line, and seven cowards in a caucus of 47 are going to cause the reporting tomorrow to be "the democrats cave."
We’re gonna eat you. With forks.
Sen. Angus King on why Democrats caved: "It wasn't working."

I get the sentiment, but this really isn't true. Corporate personhood has an extremely long history (dating back to pre-Roman times for things like Punic trading ventures). You already see the roots of corporations exercising constitutional rights with town charters.
Death by Lightning rules.

It makes Roscoe Conkling out to be a real scumbag, but did you know he also helped establish corporate personhood based on a lie he peddled to SCOTUS in 1882 leveraging his unrefutable authority as the 14A’s sole surviving framer?

Total WIA is a primarily bureaucratic category, not a meaningful reflection of actual loss rates. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Extremely proud of the amicus work that MWELA performed in this matter, with the brief being written by Omar Melehy, of Melehy & Associates, and myself.

What makes the "if it came out in 2007" joke particularly funny is the tension between (1) how obviously overwrought that era was and (2) the fact that the inner 2000's highschooler in you *knows* that they would be straight up youtube AMV bangers.

This post is almost perfectly crafted to match Bsky's general lack of reading comprehension and ability to pick up on context clues. It's magnificent.
I am personally disgusted by this and would like to be on record that if I were presented with this set of facts, I would absolutely vote to convict per the judge's instructions.

The law is the law, and I have as little right to ignore that as a hypothetical prosecutor has reason to strike me.
straight-up jury nullification. this guy did it, confessed to it, and the jury instructions explicitly said that if he did it intentionally, it was assault.

remember all those 'project 2025 isn't actually real, you fools, you naifs' media pieces.
Amazing how much 2025 was a hyper correction for the fact that in 2024 voters clearly didn't know what they were voting for because the media didn't report on Trump's actual policies/voters refused to believe what they were voting for.
Between 2020 and 2024, no New Jersey county moved further right than Passaic County (11pts). At 43% it's also the most the most-Latino county in the state, and is among the least-white overall.

Last night, it moved 18pts to the left, surpassed only by Hudson County (the second-most Latino county)

You can easily sell investing more resources into the immigration court system to expedite case resolution as cracking down on asylum abuse.
i do think Dems should moderate on immigration in the sense that Dems should redesign our immigration policy to work like people think it works: you wait for a while (but not forever) to get into the country and then you wait for a while (but not forever) to become a citizen.

Seems like Platner is thinking about running in the Ohio Dem senate primary now that his Maine campaign is collapsing.
Evidently there was an Auschwitz-themed float in a Halloween parade in Pennsylvania.

The float was for a Catholic school, and to their credit the church immediately disavowed it.

Thing is, I don’t think high school kids did this entirely on their own. I’m guessing parents had to be involved.

I emphasize this because I find a lot of people seem to find the idea that the rich are the ultimate parasites just intuitive and natural and it actually isn't necessarily a timeless historical consensus!
The anti-aristocratic take on modern evil vampires is an *emergent* property of society increasingly openly considering the aristocracy the same sort of parasite that they thought Jews, gay people, sex workers, merchants and actors were - not some upright Marxist social consciousness.

The underlying problem with means testing and enforcement is that it's not a question of efficiency but of maintaining popular support for programs. People hate someone getting something they don't deserve more than they hate the idea of someone *not* getting something they deserve.
For every $1 in benefits fraud, agencies spend $3.72 trying to detect it, based on the unproven assumption that means-testing lowers the rate of fraud. But there's evidence to indicate that trusting people to self-report what they need would be cheaper overall, even factoring in fraud/abuse.

California Governor Polling:

🔴 Bianco: 13%
🔵 Villaraigosa: 11%
🔵 Becerra: 9%
