This is Link. His ball suddenly went missing and then reappeared trapped under his bed. He called his brother Otto in for backup, knowing they'd need all three of their collective brain cells to get it back. 12/10 for both (IG: thegoldenbruvs)

Random question for my anglo speakers: was mercantilism a concept taught to you in primary or secondary school? Also, could you give a rough explanation (off the top of your head, no looking it up) of it? (This is research for something I'm drafting, I appreciate all answers no matter what!)

People who tell me to just buy a specific product at my local thrift store should be required to open up a thrift store in my area that sells that product.

So far, there has been zero correlation between things the internet tells me to thrift and things available in convenient thrift stores.

Hey. Did anyone here attend the International Star Trek Convention in Washington, DC, January 1-4, 1976, or know one of its organizers?
An editor at the excellent @fanlore.org site is looking for info on the con.

For all the decades I've been on the internet, conventional wisdom has always been to write the content of email first and fill out the "To" field last, to avoid inadvertently sending an email that's not ready.

authors you have the chance to do the funniest thing right now
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

In the Ghosts universe, there must be a lot of ghosts in hospitals. And since a head injury can cause live humans to be able to see them, there must be a non-zero number of live humans who can see the hospital ghosts

Yes, this articulates it perfectly! I have to waste my time providing constructive feedback for slop instead of doing actual work!

Whether my boss wants me to beta-test, or a text sent for quality control was done with NMT, or tactfully asking for clarifications from a client who used a LLM...
Hadn't occurred to me before, but nobody should ever have to waste their time providing constructive feedback for slop.
Hey folks. I have spent *days* reading and meticulously drafting comments on a very lengthy manuscript. Which I have just found includes an AI-faked quote. Attributed to ME.

Here is a thread of my feelings

Awooooo! #UglyDogs

(Not sure if I got my timezones right, but there's no such thing as late for an awooo. It just passes from dog to dog around the world like GNU)
a brown and white corgi puppy is sitting on a wooden floor with the word awooooooo on the bottom
Alt: Impossibly adorable little puppy doing an awoooo for what might be the very first time in their whole little life

Alice was a mentor, a friend and one of the people who I credit with helping me find my voice.

She gave me the strength to embrace my disabilities and use my skills as a writer to help others.

My life is forever changed because of her.

I will have more to say once I’ve processed 💔

Thinking today how homelessness runs through this story, through Epstein's (Virginia Guiffre had been homeless before meeting him), and even through Gaiman's (his nanny was sleeping on the beach when Palmer recruited her, and he used threats of homelessness against another victim).
The woman whom the House Ethics Committee determined Matt Gaetz paid for sex when she was 17 years old was living in a homeless shelter, working at McDonald's, and needed the money for braces www.nytimes.com/2025/11/13/u...
