I like the Carry On films but the lore is too confusing, impossible for modern audiences to accept these people could play a major part in the French Revolution AND lose their bras on camping holidays

Having a day off that's not connected to the weekend feels illegal. I keep expecting guards to break down the front door and drag me to work.

This is the easiest case for understanding gerrymandering. Salt Lake City, in the center of the state, is the only Dem leaning area in Utah. So GOPers divided the state into 4 districts, radiating out from SLC, cutting it into four quadrants, preventing the city from electing a Rep of their choice.

Yeah, but what if this *isn't* late-stage capitalism? What if this is just the middle part of capitalism, before it goes into laying-its-eggs-inside-another-ideology-stage capitalism and makes giant capitalist wasps? Pretty sure it has to end in wasps.

Desert sky, dream beneath the desert sky.
The rivers run but soon run dry.
We need new dreams tonight.
Desert rose, dreamed I saw a desert rose
Dress torn in ribbons and bows
Like a siren she calls (to me).

Sleep comes like a drug in God's country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses, in God's country

Boy you can just realllllllly fucking tell who's never had to get on the horn with an insurance company huh
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

Baltimore has SO MANY gorgeous historic buildings and many (most?) of them are not as well cared-for as this one was before tonight. We're not sure what to say other than to be CAREFUL this fire season, and that careful & sustainable historic preservation matters
The Baltimore City Fire Department is on the scene of a three-alarm fire in Hampden, in a historic building known as “The Castle.” www.thebanner.com/community/lo...

Unfortunately you have to primary everyone, not just because they don't have what it takes to fight, but because they don't have what it takes to rebuild. Last thing you want is them to win by default and then tread water until the next Trump comes to power
what the moment calls for is fighters instead of gormless boobs who should have retired 30 years ago. policy differences can be hashed out later, everyone can agree that Musk and Trump must be stopped and democracy restored
“Unlike the Tea Party of 2010, this is not an issue that breaks down cleanly along ideological lines. An insurgency isn’t necessarily going to pull Dems to the left, especially because Dem voters can’t really agree on which ideological direction to take their party.” split-ticket.org/2025/02/21/t...

If you feel overwhelmed, remember that you can still make a difference doing little things. A compliment or word of encouragement, a tip to a favorite takeout place, a donation to a local charity, an email to your favorite author, time with a pet, a walk outside, or a phone call to a loved one.
