Bon, chuis là, là. Bilingual disaster. Appalling poet. Slightly more impressive at prose. I do prefer to post on Mastodon or my blog, but I have some old friends here so I make an effort to check in from time to time.

J'le call: ça va être, si ça ne l'est déjà, un désastre faramineux.
Real talk: are hospital workers and patients actually following the directive? Because there was a while there were masks were supposedly mandatory in health care settings and no one was masking correctly.
France: "Wearing a mask is once again mandatory in Paris hospitals"

"Faced with a rapid rise in respiratory infections, several hospitals in the Île-de-France region have decided to reinstate mandatory mask-wearing for healthcare workers, visitors, and patients over the age of 6."

So... this is maybe besides the point but Epstein comes across as really ignorant and stupid in all of this. How was this man able to con his way into a MIT-lab-and-private-island-kingdom of child rape and stolen money? (Rhetorical.)
Some informal science advising here:

Epstein: i liked the argument that more co2 is good for plants?

Krauss: My goodness. So you are listening to an old Nobel laureate whose expertise has nothing to do with this, who has never studied this
in detail, built models, done experiments....

The strike is not about whether or not you approve of Starbucks coffee. It's about the workers, who like all workers deserve equitable treatment and fair pay. That is the issue. Why bring up your personal feelings about the coffee? Nobody in this conversation cares. Start another thread about it.

I read the phrase "according to an AI-assisted search of the material by CBC News" and my ability to take anything that followed seriously was thrown out the window.

What's that Stats Can stat about media trust? Something like 40% of Cdn youth don't trust news sources. It's a real mystery!!!!

Trump is basing his entire presidency, and the right wing bases its current fascist project, on cases like Castle Rock. Because if the government has no duty to protect you from others, it need not protect you from itself.

honestly i had to read paradise lost for university and there are whole parts of the beginning especially that i found fascinating

also it felt like i much better understood protestant christianity as a whole after, funnily enough
holy shit i should read paradise lost
there's a moment in PARADISE LOST where Satan arrives in Eden and realizes Hell isn't a place; it's a thing he carries within him and it'll follow him wherever he goes. and i think about that when i see these awful rich men whose monstrous wealth has enriched them not at all

Gersande is an actual genius. Here's my revised November writing goal.

Base goal: 10,000 words
Reward: a pat on the back lmao

Stretch goal #1: 20,000 words
Reward: fancy ASOIAF box set

Stretch goal #3: 30,000 words
Reward: KBBQ dinner
Maybe try setting a really easy goal, and then set yourself stretch goals , ex.: if I write an extra 5k a week, i am allowed to spend 100 bucks on tea, etc. (i fully admit to bribing myself lmao)

We need to start calling misrepresentation of COVID-related harms as due to "lockdowns" what it is: fraud, and a breach of academic integrity.

There's room for good research, but studies that ignore direct effects and mindlessly attribute e.g. changes in mental health to mitigations are dishonest.
I'll try hanging a bit of a branch off the main thread here breaking out more information from the NASEM long COVID report for those who need it. Annex Tables 3-1 through 3-13 go through selected long COVID impacts, and are organized by body system: nap.nationalacademies.org/read/27756/c...

Thinking a bit about Mary Cheney today. If her queerness saved the world from a Cheney-as-USA-president. But perhaps it did nothing after all, and Cheney was at his most effectively harmful as VP.

In many respects, this is the most harmful budget from a climate perspective since the Harper era, writes Hadrian Mertins-Kirkwood
Oil and gas trumps climate action in brutal federal budget
The budget makes clear that fossil fuel production for export is a central pillar of this government’s economic strategy — and that it won’t let climate measures get in the way.

Here's the biggest PSE story you haven't heard yet: the Canada Student Grant for low-income students is being cut from $4200/year to $3000/year as of next August. It's implicit in the budget tables but the government is too chickenshit to actually say so directly.
