Just to be 100% clear: do not *trust* your employers - that's super silly. The relationship is economical, not based in loyalty, trust, or kindness. There's no judgement in forming a union, just understanding that capitalism requires a risk of financial loss to get companies to do the right thing.

At the workplace we unionized it made an equal seat at the table a mandatory benefit for workers, from workload to severance. You cannot believe how fast things can change when you stand together, wall to wall, department to department. When the workers say no, when your lawyers say no, it's a no.
The fact that some of the companies who run the games industry are fighting so hard to stop unionization just proves how much power the workers have when they stand together. This disgusting action only delays the inevitable; solidarity will win.

Highly recommend getting involved in the labour movement if you want a much-needed antidote to this. It's not easy work, but it does bring out the absolute best in people and will rekindle your hope in humanity.

There is no version of capitalism where poor working class people aren't getting exploited. No version. To do capitalism is to exploit the working class, to reward greed, and to promote hate and bigotry. There's no "good" capitalism, same way there's no "ethical" multimillionaire or billionaire.

If this is based on voting stats, it’s worth recalling that lots of Americans don’t vote, and many aren’t eligible. Only about 22% of the US population voted for Trump in ‘24. These people are the minority.

I guess that’s what capitalism does best: it takes people who once believed in collective freedom, isolates them, fills them with fear, and convinces them that climbing over others is the only way to “succeed" and to be " safe." It turns nonwhite oppressed peoples against one another.

I do think basically everyone regardless of leftist affiliation should read the bits of capital vol 1 explaining the falling rate of profit and the bits of Lenin Imperialism about how that leads to monopoly -> colonialism -> world war cuz it does kinda explain Everything about why it's Like That
