J'le call: ça va être, si ça ne l'est déjà, un désastre faramineux.
Do you ever go to the Power Corporation of Canada wikipédia page and just marvel at how fucked up Canada is. How is this a country. The joke that Canada is three resource extraction corps in a trench-coat ... it would be funny if it were a little less real.

November's blog post is up on my author website! I reflect on the month's writing challenge and how @gersande.com's advice reshaped my mindset for it. amshilling.com/2025/11/30/c...
November 2025: Challenge, start!
I decided to challenge myself again this November, as I had done with NaNoWriMo in 2016, but it didn’t go quite like I’d planned or expected.

Dispatch really captures how the "clients" in customer service are a genuine fucking nightmare, huh.

Fighting a migraine, possibly triggered by the stress of writing this blog post last night. Dunno when I'll get the VF up but for now, in case you missed it yesterday: the federal NDP has no plan for Quebec and seems content with that 🫣

Such a good blog post and hits on so many things I struggle with greatly in the era of covid denial. Merci Lia!!
This one's been cooking for months but I finally managed to hammer it into probably-slightly-blasphemous shape. Contrary to public opinion, I am in fact neither the pope nor a saint - yes it's about covid again: lia-sae.net/articles/202...
Lia's blog - I am not the goddamn pope
Though maybe I should charge for indulgences since so many people seem to want one?

This! Struggling (however little) means I am constantly learning, reinforcing neural pathways, finding new patterns. I’m also committing the codebase to my brain so I can think through it holistically and improve things.
The chatbot can’t do that BECAUSE IT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND SEMANTICS
i suspect people severely underestimate the negative cognitive effects of using AI tools. even for programming tasks. and even if you are someone who gets real efficiency gains from those tools; perhaps especially then

I’m not surprised that journalists at the Guardian didn’t want to investigate links between “natural birthing” & the anti-trans movement or that they wanted to include a TERF like Singleton but it still pisses me off. I’m so fucking tired of this shit. So much for being an in-depth investigation.

In an interview w/ Meghan Murphy*, Mary Lou Singleton said she was in touch w/ the journalists who wrote the Guardian piece about the Free Birth Society but refused to be in it because they didn’t want to talk about how the FBS was “a refuge for women who were gender critical” & “covid critical”.

Fascinating how every conceivable topic under the sun is now the subject of at minimum six wildly different conspiracy theories.

So much data, so little meaning!

Okay clearly I'm not done: is there a question that touches more on workers' rights than immigration? Temporary foreign workers? Refugees? Climate refugees? No? Unless I very badly misunderstood, I don't think a single aspiring NDP leader spoke about immigration tonight.

I respect Rachel's work a whole lot, but she and I saw something so different tonight. I've been following NDP politics since 2010, and tonight, the aspiring Federal NDP leadership convincingly seemed to wash their hands of Québec. Tonally, content-wise, the messaging, was so bizarre.
NDP debates are less "debates" and more "agreement-offs" lol. Who can agree harder!!!!! Endearing but not very juicy

Only in Canada would a bunch of aspiring leaders of a federal political party show up to a political debate in Montréal and be generally incapable of speaking in any meaningful way about the political situation on the ground, in this city or province. The NDP has clearly conceded Québec.

Only in Canada would an aspiring leader of a federal political party show up to a French language debate and ROLL THEIR EYES at the moderator when asked (not for the first time) to please answer the question in French.

This is actually a skit.
The @ndp.ca hasn't posted here in a month, it seems, and they haven't updated their YouTube channel in AGES.

This means that I'm looking at a bootleg stream, with no FR option...in an ostensibly FR debate that uh isn't all-FR because of the FR level of the candidates.

Welcome back to our one and only earth, Steven.
This afternoon, I informed the Prime Minister of my decision to resign as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, Minister responsible for Official Languages, Minister of Nature and Parks Canada, as well as his Lieutenant in Quebec.

You can find my full statement below.

It will never stop being shocking how poorly Anglo politicians speak French during French-language debates. Honestly, I would rather they just speak in English and give up the pretence of inclusion towards French speakers.
