Gallery: Sorry, your art was not accepted for our exhibition, but thanks for applying.
Me: What? I never applied.
Gallery: Oops! [verbatim] "I was using an AI tool to organize a spreadsheet of exhibition submissions. It incorrectly invented a few names during the sorting process, and yours was one."

if you need any computer things, you may want to buy them now. before the DRAM prices increase even more

if people knew how to use computers well they would be less impressed by coding agents

spending over a decade getting pretty good at doing "generative things" only to land in the decade of generative slop is ... not ideal

OpenAI has two options. 1) make God and ask for more money; or 2) expand their user base at any—and i mean any—cost

Every single actual creative person has experienced the experience of finding effortless what was once effortful.

A generative AI user is completely alienated from this experience, it's alien and unfamiliar to feel pride in the outcome. Or, even to actually give a fuck about it at all.

I just gave a talk where a student asked "what do you call this kind of work because it's way more interesting than most generative art?" ::sigh::

On the one hand I remain adamant that computers should try new shapes because there are too many rectangles. On the other hand, we all seem to agree that computer orb is bad. Must find a new computer shape that pleases the people

i was going to say that google wouldn't be so careless as to train LLMs on all of gmail; the cost of the potential fallout would be too great, even for them. but i really don't know if i believe that anymore

The “google is using your email to train AI” debacle is imo most instructively seen as tracer dye for multiple failures: many people are instinctively skeptical of tech companies now; and many outlets that should have had experts able to cogently weigh in and go “wait a minute” simply don’t anymore.

I don't share as much art as I used to, & I don't make as much art as I used to cos:

1. Slop machines made it even more difficult to get paid for making art, so I do more of other things that do pay. Cos I have bills.

2. Stuff artists do share ending up in the slop machines is pretty demotivating…
