For non-Brits: nobody can afford to get sued by revved-up wingnuts and crackpots armed with JK Rowling’s money, and nobody wants to be the next organisation protested by the far right and monstered into the heart of the earth by the world’s most poisonous media outlets. So they are folding.

The subtext of the GG statement is "we really didn't want to do this, but our lawyers have told us that if we don't, activist bigot groups with access to effectively unlimited funding will use the courts to destroy our organisation entirely"
Trans children denied participation in society because of the Supreme Court and EHRC. To attack us adults is one thing but to attack children is another. The UK needs to lose its GANHRI A accreditation.

I think if you share someone's work after having cut their name off of the piece you should be forced to pay for their groceries for a month.

As you might expect, the Telegraph article claims being shared around the place as so distorted as to be (in my view) dishonest.
Lies, damned lies and the Telegraph. They posted CSJ figures using an outrageously false comparison of 2 cases. It claimed a benefits family were better off by £18k than a working household when the real figure was £16k worse off. The details benefitsinthefuture.com #benefits #budget

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades

Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

Just to be clear this is me making a joke, the reason for the resignation is not a wordpress error, but presiding over an organisation where it was possible for such an error to occur by not making sure its systems were up to scratch.
If we're resigning over a miscalibrated wordpress site then I am going to be far more stressed about work going forward.

I was diagnosed with #HIV in 1998, when I was 30.
Many of my friends had died of AIDS. I did not expect to live to 50.
I’m 58 now.
HIV treatment works.
Treatment also makes it impossible for me to pass HIV on during sex.
Ensure HIV treatment for all.
End HIV stigma.

Question: Why is it seen as more socially acceptable to drive with phone in hand and eyes glued to screen than it is to drive drunk?

Earlier in the year I drove 9600 miles to do Milky Way photography.

Between that, work, my health, and the terrors, I'm exhausted.

I promised myself no more trips over 100 miles from home for the year, unless critical for the union.

I broke that promise Saturday.

Worth it.

Final version. 🪶

fwiw I am very pleased with my current batch of final year undergraduates, who are for the most part engaged and engaging, with more than usual taking advantage of the additional support that is open to them. No cohort will ever be as good as 2020-21 (desperate for tasks), but these are pretty great
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Frustrating to have to listen to this, but the pressure has to be kept on.

We need a national ban and then let council's proposed places where they wish to provide footway parking through the democratic process, including assessing the equality impacts.
