Yet again, we can't afford to let LLMs become a source of epistemic grounding for society.
Largest study of its kind shows AI assistants misrepresent news content 45% of the time – regardless of language or territory

Continue to avoid the area of W. 54th Street between Lyndale and Nicollet avenues as this is still an active scene and for the privacy of the victims’ families. There is no safety threat to the public.

There is so much terrible about all of this, but what strikes me most is how often the teen suggested involving his family so he didn’t go through with the suicide and it appears that each time, ChatGPT discouraged him.

the democrats don't talk like that in reality, this framing exists to make people think they do & keep voters divided over language instead of focused on something that costs the rich money
Don't say "birthing person."
Don't say "incarcerated person."
Don't say "the unhoused."
Don't say "chest feeding."
Don't say "centering.
Don't say "Latinx."

When voters hear this, they think Democrats are out of touch crazy people. Just talk normal. Be normal.

In authoritarian crackdowns, it’s important to randomly ensnare some people whom one would think would be safe, so that everyone is at least a little bit afraid that something could happen to them. The regime scales up its power of intimidation over a much larger group than those directly affected.

Don’t. Do not. Do literally anything other than this. See a licensed therapist. Get a plant. Volunteer at an animal shelter. Shitpost 24 hours a day on Bluesky. Anything but this.
OpenAI is now openly suggesting people use chatGPT for mental health, to „untangle their thoughts” to help them „think more clearly” or if they need to decide whether to „break up with their boyfriend”.

This is unacceptable. Somebody will die. They know that. They don’t care.

Fuck them.

Consumer facing "A.i." is about triggering the excretion of a mediocre product. It's a rejection of PROCESS. Life itself is process, not fucking product. Push "A.i." on kids and you rob them of the joyful experience of life itself. I am not exaggerating.

This is it. Freeze it in amber. Hang it in a museum. The ultimate expression of the NYT and the elite class behind it.

The utter moral failure of ceding power to Trump? Acceptable ... if it is done in a clever, savvy way!

i have been thinking a lot about how the entire concept of “the deal” is antithetical to transparency, fair play and rule of law, as larry notes. the deal is necessarily nonstandard, ad hoc and dependent on the whims of the dealmaker
The idea that President can negotiate/dictate bilateral “deals” by using the full force of the federal government to punish and humiliate his perceived enemies goes against the whole idea of the rule of law. That should be the story, rather than normalizing this authoritarian behavior.

The EPA released a report last week that misrepresents the very papers it cites, creating a report completely deprived of facts in order to justify reregulating industries responsible for the bulk of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Wall Street Journal has published the most anti-science editorial I have ever seen, celebrating a victory against "climate imperialism" - ie. efforts to respond to an accelerating crisis that is endangering hundreds of millions of lives and is on course to end organised civilisation.
A Wall Street Journal editorial welcomes Trump admin plans to repeal the "endangerment finding" behind US climate regulations

Titled "Climate Regulation Liberation Day", it questions the "dubious proposition that GHGs pose a clear and present danger"…

Note the huge discrepancy between what the NYTimes claims Trump is saying ("I'll defer to the courts!") and what Trump is actually saying ("maybe I'll prosecute Obama!").

When Trump is too inept to defend himself plausibly, they insert a fictional trump who makes a more appealing argument instead.
