Bronson Pinchot is a surprisingly good audiobook narrator! And David Oyelowo narrated an Anthony Horowitz James Bond novel with such enthusiasm and skill that I wish he’d been cast as Bond years ago.

can't beat an author reading their own book (not possible with Joyce and Shelley of course).
I remember Thomas Harris being especially wonderful at it.

100% agreed (not least since I'm a SAG-AFTRA member).

Narrators don't need to be famous, but those have been some of my favorites, like Colin Farrell reading James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Dan Stevens reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein--quite magnificently, too.
Was looking up an audiobook on Libby and found out it’s narrated by AI. I want everyone involved to understand this has entirely killed my enthusiasm for the book in every format. I will never read it.

Let's also remember that this guy—a lawyer who is supposed to understand the Constitution—vilified & supported crackdowns on Gaza protestors, endangering & jeopardizing the freedom of many NY-10 constituents (including Jewish constituents of my acquaintance)
In a frankly bizarre interview with the New York Times, Dan Goldman says he's not ready to conclude that Israel has committed any war crimes in Gaza.

Not genocide, any war crimes at all.

Sandy Denny would have been 79 today - how did I celebrate her birthday this morning?
By having a wonderful phone call with her daughter discussing plans for releasing CDs of previously unreleased 1970s solo live recordings for her 80th birthday.

Leave it to me to have written about one of Béla Tarr's least known films--it's a good one, though! He was an absolutely towering figure. Thanks to @nwfilmforum.bsky.social for bringing most of his films to Seattle. I love that he went out, as it were, with 2011's unsparing The Turin Horse.

this is priceless, and it's not just rockstars she skewers, she really explains the roots of incelism and, in part, trumpism :-o

she's brilliant later on about the earnestness of the LA scene compared to the more cynical New Yorkers and English - it's a great, mournful, odd documentary all round
Via @willhermes.bsky.social, this 1977 Dutch doc about L.A. rock features, @ 4:30, Linda Rondstadt, in plain language, nicely and not at all unkindly, demolishing every macho rock shibboleth in sight in about two minutes. I cannot stop laughing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXTH...

Violently attacked by a cat I had adopted 5 days before. Blood all over the place, had to call 911, four visits to urgent care for IV antibiotics, and three months of wound care. Met my high deductible, have a hell of a scar, but the cat was safely returned, and I ended up with a winner (pictured).

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, could you please establish an official NYC Mayor account on Bluesky and post everything your office is currently posting on X over here?

And please remove all city accounts from X, which has become a CSAM creation and distribution site?

No money for Musk, ever, please.

100% agreed. Here's what I wrote when I saw it Cucalorus. I was on the judging committee, and strongly advocated for its inclusion. At the festival, I moderated the Q&A with cinematographer Gabe Elder, who does stellar work. He told me that Henry Chalfant cried both times he saw the film at Venice.

I can't stand it when people argue with headlines that don't fully or even accurately reflect the piece in question. I also realize this will never end, but Jeez Louise: read the piece. I mean you can criticize *the way* a headline is written without reading the piece, but that's a different thing.

I will reiterate that if you are an independent journo/hobbyist I will happily set up your ghost install and host it for a few quid above cost price.

You set up your own stripe and mailgun accounts, and you get to keep ALL your revenue.

And post migration from wordpress/substack is pretty easy.
If there is one resolution I want for journalists this year: it is to get off S*bstack and use Ghost or any other indy publishing platform that does not fund literal nazis instead.
