INJECT IT INTO MY VEINS
MAKE ME BETTER is my forthcoming novel about the horrors of community. It is about cults, wellness, control, and the things we will do to escape grief.

Sometimes it hurts to grow -- but your community believes that you can be made pure.

It comes out in May.

Like 90% of first-year classes are just assessing whether students can follow extremely basic instructions, with carefully constructed opportunities to learn and grow in this skill.

AND SO MANY STUDENTS STILL FAIL.

Me: Once I've approved your topic, you may not change it. The point is to learn the full research process: question, sources, draft, revisions. I need to see the process, not just the product.

Students in our draft meeting: So I changed my topic...

Last night I dreamed 3 geese attacked my car, ripped off one windshield wiper, and cracked the moonroof glass. Then I had to teach a class with a bunch of admins wandering in and out, while my students goofed off the whole time, and I was distracted trying to figure out how to get my car repaired.

Glad to hear 9 people I’ve never met have decided I can stay married for now. What a cool system we have. 🤬
New: The Supreme Court DENIES Kim Davis' request to overturn Obergefell, the marriage equality decision. No noted dissents. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

I love meeting online friends! 😍
I know how weird it is to meet online friends. I would fully just fist-bump any of you and then walk the other way, if that’s what works.

Me: I could never live in a city. They’re just so loud and filled with people.

Me in Boston: I love this city.

AI chatbots didn’t encourage teens to kill themselves. The people at the companies that created the AI chatbots failed to create safety guardrails that adhere to best practices in suicide prevention methods.

Typically, I tell students that they get to teach me about their interests and passions through their essays. In hindsight, I probably should've banned AI as a topic for first-year writing, solely because I know waaaaaay too much about it, and my students are getting frustrated with my nit picking.

Listen, Trump is a horrible, fascist president, but if you watch the whole fainting video, he’s not actually being aloof or uncaring. There were 3 people, including Dr. Oz, immediately helping the fainting guy, so there was nothing for Trump to even do.

Media literacy and accuracy are important.
