Don't get me wrong I lost a lot of respect for a lot of people in 2024 but the people who I lost the most respect for is The People, and I gotta say, seeing the special election results makes me madder at them

Props to Rep. Nydia Velazquez. This is exactly the right approach from a longtime member of Congress in their 70s. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/20/n...

This is more or less why I expect a nasty wave of organizational natural selection based on who *actually* has at least workable epistemic processes to screen out insane bullshit, and who will get eaten alive by their own delusions.

It probably leads to better organizations in the medium run!
I've written about "disordered counterpublics" groups that reinforce shared delusions Here, the LLM becomes a 1 person counterpublic. It mirrors assumptions, absorbs contradictions, & provides the sense of a responsive, confirming audience.
It is the architecture of disordered discourse, automated.

A friend says the Epstein stuff will come to nothing, Trump will avoid consequences like he always does. Which might be true, but I'm just enjoying the idea of him stressing out about it and getting that much closer to another stroke

“When it comes to violence, we are ambivalent about sense-making. On the one hand, we yearn for answers. But on the other, we are devoted to ignorance and entranced by the logic of sacrifice, in which certain especially tragic deaths, in their senselessness, promise redemption.”

We need someone like Jeremy Crawford to call out Elon for not knowing anything about D&D, so we can all enjoy him replying to old D&D tweets with "best subrace ever" and "you get the most alpha from the Four Elements monk"
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

straight-up jury nullification. this guy did it, confessed to it, and the jury instructions explicitly said that if he did it intentionally, it was assault.

One minor take-away from the NYC mayor's race for those concerned with AI/synthetic media and its effects on politics and elections might be that, in this particular instance, the guy who made a malicious deepfake lost and the guy who made authentic videos won.
