Once again I must stress: If you think I defend the BBC because I've worked for it, you've completely misunderstood. I, and anyone else in this position, am defending the BBC *despite* the fact I've worked for it.

Wow! Free bikes trial schemes in 3 areas showed a 12x returning investment.
Reduced expected cases of disease by 16% and deaths by 6%.
What a win. We should be rolling these schemes to all deprived neighbourhoods.

This is also great reminder that cities aren't noisy; vehicle traffic is. The fewer vehicles on the road, the quieter your life is.
Voorstraat in Utrecht: a true fietsstraat where bikes come first and cars are guests. It’s not just safer and more relaxed to cycle - the whole street benefits. Outdoor cafés, quieter homes, and a vibrant public space. When you design for people, cities flourish.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

Worth remembering that freezing fuel duty, which could well happen again, costs about 30x more than the cycle to work scheme per year.

Thanks to open data, it's possible to look at what the spending on the cycle to work scheme is compared to other similar schemes, say vehicle salary sacrifice.
Both involve buying things before tax on wages so reducing your tax bill, giving an idea of the tax raising potential from each.

It’s not just about what you remove (cars, noise, dirty air). It’s about what you add (people walking, a lot of bike parking, trees, outdoor dining, and room for kids to play safely). Amsterdam: 1986 and today.

Streets for people.

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
Annex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanes
Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

Incredibly naive.

Basically kills off any career path for Over Head Line teams.

The industry will down skill to repair and maintenance alone.

Kills off any investment or innovation in OLE too.

Bet they announce a new road or airport expansion within a month.
Govt scraps all electrification investment. Midland Main Line to stay forever diesel Leicester Nottingham Derby Sheffield. Hugely embarrassing and inexplicable
