Everyone who actually makes TV and films: “we can reduce production costs if you commission original, lower budget projects, are willing to back actors who aren’t household names, and dial back on bland VFX spectacle in favour of artistry”

Exclusive: Amazon plans to use AI to speed up TV and film production
Amazon plans to use artificial intelligence to speed up the process for making movies and TV shows even as Hollywood fears that AI will cut jobs and permanently reshape the industry.

Whenever people in the arts rage at government about support, we all say “BUT IT’S A MULTI BILLIONTY BILLION INDUSTRY.”

And then we say “Oh. None of us get paid.”

That should be the issue, surely?

We’ve had super profitable industries before where workers never saw the cash. And we did something.
This is a brilliant, thorough and truthful bit of writing, as you’d expect from @littlemaddles.bsky.social.

Someone is making a penny, as they say, and the arts needs to have a hard look at itself, 25 years into a lunatic experiment in impoverishing creators.

At an industry event last night one (old media) journalist said “we may need institutions like the BBC because internet searches don’t return separate news stories now, but an AI summary that is usually wrong.”

Watching an industry shrug and surrender to a competitor that DOES NOT WORK.

Rope swings are inevitable: if nature and climate have conspired together to create a tree whose bows offer the perfect height for a swing, in a location looking over a river or steep slope, at some point in time one will appear.

Please, *please*, PLEASE do not use that word!
“Jaywalker” is a term pushed by the US Auto industry to criminalise pedestrians crossing the road and inconveniencing all those very important motor car drivers. We don’t have that concept here - thank God - and we should not be thinking in those terms.
