Jewish descendent of holocaust victims and survivors here.

What he said was fine.

Neighbours hiding minority children from uniformed government thugs in service to a nativist agenda is bad enough.

I'm sure Anne would have preferred people spoke up BEFORE the Nazis got to the death camps stage.

before you take any of the "Trump is pivoting/lamenting/lowering the temperature after the Pretti murder" stories too seriously, absolutely nothing has changed in Minneapolis: "an absolutely brutal day of raids and abductions" says one friend

Since France was right when it told the rest of us Europeans that we should be friends with the Americans but not rely on the them let alone trust them, why don't we trust the French on this and all follow suit?

My gosh. Alex Pretti was notifying neighbors that Trump and Vance's agents were chasing a family. A mob of agents then tackled him and broke his rib.

He thought he was going to die.

Then the very next week, he came back out to support his neighbors.

And a mob of agents killed him.

While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.

Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

That's a point as valid for the EU and UK as it is for Ukraine
Security guarantees from Trump can’t be relied on. He treats any decision point as an opportunity for extortion.
The Trump admin has indicated to Ukraine that US security guarantees are contingent on Kyiv first agreeing a peace deal that would likely involve ceding the Donbas region to Russia…

Please. This is absurd. Europe can certainly deter Russia and defend itself if its focused and determined. Perpetuating a sense of European helplessness may help Rutte bureaucratically but its 1. wrong 2. prevents action. 3. willfully blind: the US ain't coming to defend Europe.
“If anyone thinks here… that the European Union or Europe as a whole can defend itself without the US, keep on dreaming,” Nato SecGen Mark Rutte told the European Parliament. “You can’t.”

“It will make things more complicated. I think Putin will love it. So think again.”

Bovino is just the patsy - a noxious and odious fall guy. Stephen Miller is the architect and prime mover of the whole thing. Everything they do is at his direction - often after his threats. As long as he runs policy in the WH, nothing will change no matter how many Bovinos come and go.

HOW IT WORKS IN MOVIES:

1. Government lies

2. Brave heroes release video showing the truth

3. Press says “the government is lying!”

HOW IT APPARENTLY WORKS IN REAL LIFE

1. Brave heroes release video showing the truth

2. Government lies

3. Press says “Oh no, what now? So confusing! So hard!”

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

Excellent thread, but this post is why I think Miller, Bovino and others around Trump might pursue violent confrontation, perhaps against a Dem-controlled Congress, even if I also reckon it would end in fiasco for MAGA.

The Trump administration is dangerously blinded by ideological delusions
MAGA ideology is fundamentally, unavoidably invested in the notion that if the shackles of 'woke' and the 'leftist cultural apparatus' ('the cathedral') are thrown off, the 'authentic,' many and powerful MAGA majority will emerge - and so they seek the clarifying spasm of violence to produce that.

One of the things that troubles me about the American situation is that given everything we see ICE doing on the streets, the things they do behind closed doors to the people they have abducted will be worse. When the camps are liberated it will reveal a litany of horrors.
