I've picked up some followers lately so I'll do a new intro post - for many years I ran a very funny epic fantasy podcast called Crudely Drawn Swords, which you can listen to right now. I'm also a musician, programmer, game designer, horse trainer and apparently now novelist? I'm learning to draw.

As a songwriter or musician it's easy to feel powerless, but how many people would be aware that today is the fiftieth anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald if it wasn't for the song?

The key weakness in AI agents is that they're a lie. They don't work. They just don't fuckin' work. You can't set a hallucination engine to work doing tasks. It's pants on head stupid. The hype pretends this isn't the case and hypothesises a fabulous future where they work *at all*. This is a lie.

"Hate" may be strong but my 16 year old self thought horses were for posh losers, and that Welsh was a dead language, so he was profoundly wrong about a lot of things that interest me now.
What do you like now that 16 year old you would hate you for?

Talking about the Brilliant BBC adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings, @anothermrlizard.bsky.social observed that it's a shame that the sound effect they used for Shelob was subsequently adopted by Mr Blobby. My theory is that creatures of Morgoth often sound similar.

I know we've all got a lot on our minds and the gusher of news doesn't stop for anybody, but....
Did you see where the President of Iran announced that the drought there is so bad that if they don't get any rain in the next two months they'll run out of water and *evacuate Tehran*?

I read this earlier in the year and enjoyed it - at this price it's a bargain.
Moon's Artifice is just 99p/$1.49 at the moment because it never found enough readers when it was published so why not?

Which means of course that the UK Gov removing such access from almost everyone is a deliberate decision to kill people.
Well now, would you look at that?
A massive study of NEARLY 300,000 people in the United States found that receiving an updated 2024-2025 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine REDUCED people’s risk of severe disease AND death in ALL age groups, REGARDLESS of immunity from prior infection or vaccination.

If a superhuman intelligence came into being and we said, “how do we end scarcity?” I promise you the people who had one hand on the plug to that superhuman intelligence would pull that plug if the AI gave the actual answer, because they don’t want to end scarcity.

The indie series I will always yell about is @patricksamphire.bsky.social's Mennik Thorn books. Hard-boiled wizard thrillers in a hazardous yet homely city, they're a guaranteed good time. I'm excited for the forthcoming prequel novella.
